Damn I've kinda been looking for this movie and at the same time not. Watched it when I was 9 and it was just too much, almost left a mental scar. That very scene is what was over the top, too much for a 9 year old to comprehend. Now that I've found it again I should watch it, although reluctantly.

The CG in Metropolis rarely bothered me, I think because it was established as a large and consistent part of the film from the beginning. It isn't like an almost entirely 2D production where they just stick some 3D in there randomly but then again it could probably be done much better if the same film was made today and the scene probably would have looked much better if they got a talented big film animator like Okiura to do the animation of things falling apart.
