Yeah, sorry, I have a bit trouble explaining this well. What I mean is that the race elf in RoLW, presented through Deedlit, was good. Deedlit was a good elf. You get other characters that are good, and elves, but these characters would also be good if they wouldn't be elves.

If you take the being-an-elf from Deedlit, she would lose something that makes her Deedlit and that makes her a good character. If you cut out being-an-elf from some random isekai slut with pointy ears the isekai slut would probably not change at all.

To be fair, Deedlit was originally just a D&D elf in a homebrew setting.
But she had to be well defined back then because you couldn't just say "she's a D&D elf" and expect the average Japanese person to understand in the 1980s.
This led to her being an archetype, which then got endlessly referenced and watered down until today's nth generation copies, where elf ears are just like another costume or hairstyle or annoying speech quirk - shorthand placeholders for doing actual work developing a character.
