Them nearly dying isn't edgy, it's expected.

Even though the episode 1 was unarguably great, later episodes are not doing very well in my opinion.
I think the anime is so much faithful to the original manga that it looks like a merely tracing of its original.
Since anime has its own best way to be presented, merely tracing is not enough as an anime adaptation.
For example, the scenes of anime could be dull/awkward/slow pacing if they speak as the same amount of lines as those in the manga.
In this episode, I think the characters are too much speaking even though they are at the front of the super dangerous creature, which crippled the tense of the battle.
Over all, I think the anime director could have explored much more about what's the best way to translate the manga to the anime.

I was watching it with a friend, over Discord. In the bit where reg picks up the rock to go break Riko's arm, he tells me to pause the video. COmes back about 3 minutes later, saying that he might have to skip this episode cause he was feeling unwell.
