You're missing the big picture here, if he really wanted to just save Rin he could have used Nagato's Rinnegan on her instead of reviving Madara like the plan was intended to, Originally Nagato was meant to revive Madara not Obito, Obito was just the backup plan.

I used to dislike Sasuke as well, but when I thought about it, his character actually makes sense.

First of all, despite his calm and "cool" appearance, Sasuke was completely, totally, batshit insane. Not just as in being edgy, he simply wasn't capable of rational thinking. Courtesy of Itachi of course, whose "genius" plan did nothing but putting his brother on the highway to Madaraville.
As we have seen in flashbacks, Sasuke used to be a good kid, remnants of which still can be noticed early in the manga when he interacts with team 7. I think he actually had a chance of getting back to some semi-normal state, but second coming of Itachi ruined everything. Once Sasuke decided to abandon his friends and village, there was no return. Just like a totalitarian state, he required an enemy to function. When he learned that Itachi dindu nuffin, he started to loathe the village. When meeting Itachi and hokage managed to extinguish his hatred for Konoha in particular, he decided to blame the ninja system as a whole. Hating something for making his life miserable was his raison d'etre, his only lifeline being Naruto with his MUH SASUKE obsession. And only thanks to Naruto he didn't become Madara 2.0, but he never recovered from his autism, as he can't even pass as a functioning member of the family. Good job Itachi, you almost created another supervillain and scarred your brother for life.

What actually baffles me, is how people can keep wanking Itachi, author included. For me he's as much of a lunatic as other Uchiha, he just so happened to be a lunatic working for the village.
