I read the first few volumes of the manga as a kid and enjoyed it quite a bit.

I've seen most of it, I'm probably missing some episodes because I saw the beginning parts dubbed in my language (which makes good dubs mind you) and the newer parts subbed, but sometimes I would get bored and stop and then come back again later. I guess as long as you watch the plot heavy episodes it's all good. I've also seen all the movies and own a good portion of the mangas.
There's just something about this show that always drags me back into it, a charm I can't explain, though I'm aware the plot is slow as fuck, but somehow even the fillers are enjoyable.
The movies are fucking gold, I recommend starting with them if you're new to the series, they don't require prior knowledge and you really get to experience the best of what the series offers.

They do it all the time, well mostly Megure does. But yeah, the characters are slightly more aware of the cliches of the series now.

Also, Sera is CUTE! well, most of the characters are, actually. males as well. conan and the kids too.

See, you can't do much beside avoiding Anime Original episodes. Despite the procedural nature of the show, almost every case introduces a piece of information or a character that will matter in the future. The plot is almost always progressing, but at a very low pace. I mentioned Vermouth because that was like 200 episodes of setup resulting in a massive payoff
