While I like cell animation, that practice has been long gone, and if there are those who still practice it, it's probably more or less for personal interest as it'd be costly to produce a type a show through that form of animation compared to what you can do today with modern technology. If you are referring to artstyle, then stop being a cherry picking bitch and actually support shit you actually enjoy, you bitch.
People that say this always post pictures from an old anime movie with a big budget or an OVA with a big budget but sometimes it's just pictures they use for promotional material from magazines.
90% of anime from the 70's, 80's and 90's never looked like that all the way through or even ever.
Moe and SOL killed anime my friend, there hasn't been a single good anime movie/show in the past 10 years.
I wanted to disagree but I could literally only think of five examples of something I would actually suggest people to watch.
>The Tatami Galaxy
>Panty and stocking
Jesus christ, 5 anime in 10 years, why do i even watch anime.
Why not just walk to the nearest mcdonald's and ask around?
Yeah. I miss the days when anime was drawn by 12 year olds as well.
And I miss every anime character looking like a Down's invalid.
Man oh man. How are we living without this quality...
Surely anime could do just as good nowadays.
Better the dudes look like girls than the inverse.
I went through the trubo dyke era. I don't want to go back to it.
>Its always a screenshot of an OVA or a movie
Every single fucking time., are you genuinely this retarded and not understanding the stupidity of the claims you make or are you just shitposting? I hope for your sake its the later.
Would you prefer one not based on a video game my good autismo friend?
I love it when newshits think they know old anime.
Old anime had shit animation, shit backgrounds, garbage music, and plots so bad even Hollywood cannot hope to beat.
Live with it.
>millions of people agreeing something is good doesnt matter compared to my single opinion
No we had uh, well fuck i guess thats all we really have had in a decade. Everything else has just been your typical fap bait, waifu bait, shounen shit, or sol shit. The only thing I might add is parasyte, but even then it wasnt that good
>popularity = quality
I guess twilight and old justin bieber hits are near the pinnacle of human achievement then.
Them angles tho.
>hes so autistic he actually downloaded and watched sailor moon so he could try to bait for (you)'s
You're allowed to watch non plebbit approved anime here my newshit friend! You have been freed from the echo chamber! Rejoice.
Incidentally this is why the "I've watched 10 movies and 5 ovas and old anime looked great" bs doesn't work here.
hello everyone this is my wife, yukino.
Not on my watch.
You won't see a turdbrain claiming Venus Wars was the norm for anime in the 80s while I'm around.
Blatant Cowboy Bebop rip-off
No character development of any kind
No plot development of any kind
Only 1 good episode (groundhog day one)
OK guy so the 90s were the "not shit looking decade" a slight divergence from the typical autism of this general.
Look how good the 90s look. Man. We're really missing out on quality.
Truly the best era for anime and for
>Literally who: the anime
>still manages to pull off better animation then some modern shit.
How will modern anicucks survive?
Now compare these to our most popular anime in 2017, even anime in early 80's was better than this LOL
It was 9 minutes long, and he made more than one, and it was literally a singular person working with 0$ budget. Your anime got btfo by one autist working in basement, using a pirated version of adobe flash.
he's actually a professional, but okay.
I didn't even post that. just saying there's more to animation than high framerates
yeah, that's still not a 50+ episode series with an ongoing narrative
A professional what? Either way he wasn't a professional anything when he originally put out waterlollies.
> still not a 50+ episode
Yea and the newgrounds artist is one guy working in his spare time to make 0 money. Yet he still put out a better effort than a team of people BEING PAID.
Who knows, its a hobby, its not like newgrounds brings in the big money.
I never said I was "right". just that japan does animation more choppy. not sure what you want me to say, anon. guess I can hop a plane to japan and tell them "hey, guys, can you work a little harder? this American who pirates your hard work isn't satisfied with the quality as of late. 'kay? kay."
would that make you happy?
>Redline was also made with no budget
>Redline made with no budget
>Redline no budget
>30mill USD is no budget
>Either way he wasn't a professional anything when he originally put out waterlollies.
He was a professional working at Disney even before he put the first video, retarded.
But your point still stands, I agree with you even though you are an idiot.
these shorts are the equivalent of a tech demo showcasing new console hardware. they're always bullshit. it's just not feasible to sustain that level of quality for a long running series. and even if it was at one time, it isn't now, largely due to the internet, piracy, etc.
also, yeah, someone doing a project out of passion is obviously going to trump some Korean sweatshop worker. this isn't exactly news.
One white man animating a side project as a hobby using adobe flash, out animated an entire gook shop, how will the slant eyes ever recover?
This is not a spoonfed thread. If you really think panty and stocking is the apex of anime in the decade there's nothing I can do to you
A fucking shitty comedy
Shitty space dandy
From what hellhole did you crawl from?
Anime from the 70s, 80s, and before were all about shitty looking stiff animation. I'm pretty sure Speed Racer for instance is the show that's stereotypically though of in that way. Have you only watched OVAs or movies from those decades and think that's representative of everything from them?
What's all that about MPC-HC dyeing?
I'm still using a setup from nyaa playback txt from few years ago.
Is this wrong?
Its always the same with you autists, the only argument you fags have is "b-but the 80's was shit". We already know that anon, literally no one has ever disagreed with the fact that 80's animation is shit.
hai to gensou Grimgar
literally anything else
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Literally any Ghibli movie
Literally anything else
Almost anything by Madhouse
Happy now samefaggot?
Older anime with higher production values look way better than modern anime with high production values.
Yeah, I'm gunna say. The overuse of bad CGI (it's always bad CGI) can single handedly ruin any scene they're implemented in, and lately the japanese are obsessed with bad CGI.
I don't think there's a single instance of CGI use in anime that I didn't wish it was drawn instead.
So then when people talk about "old anime" they only mean the 90s? Weekly animation has always been awful, it doesn't matter the decade.
I figure when people talk about anime "in the past" they weren't kids born in the 00s glorifying anime made in the 90s.
Why is it so common to post still images of an anime and say "this is more visually impressive than x". No it isnt.
Anime is animated and lots of old animes that make some okay looking screenshots are slideshows of good looking screenshots.
>I don't think there's a single instance of CGI use in anime that I didn't wish it was drawn instead.
>Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
remake, also shounen shit
>hai to gensou Grimgar
Another meme rpg anime lmao, actually kys
>Literally any Ghibli movie
not a vaild reply
>Literally anything else
not a valid reply
Almost anything by Madhouse
not a valid reply
The only thing that could maybe be worth adding to the list. Personally I would still rather watch a comedy like panty and stocking than watch this second rate psychological anime. Compared to what the genre has already done in the past, its not much of a heavy hitter.
I admit that style of facial features and shading is pretty good for mature shows for mature viewers such as myself. It still should have its place. Instead we get things like kerrytugu, which are just aged-up versions of spiky haired teenage MCs.
Ok, I'll join slandering both VLC and MVP fags then.
Thanks anon, you gave me a direction
You know that they cherrypick scenes for trailers, right? If that's the best they have that's at best average animation by today's standards.
Not that you can accurately judge things at that resolution and YT quality.
>that I didn't wish it was drawn instead.
Spaceships and mecha. Given the same budget they would look laughably bad if handdrawn.
I really liked the Odette II in moretsu pirates. It was one neat sublight spaceship design.
people trying to validate that magic they felt years ago when things were new as if its a shooting star that nobody else will have. people just get more and more jaded over time and its sad they try and convince people to be jaded too
This gif shook my resolve.
I want that bear almost as much as I want loli in background.
never picked up that series on my radar. Does it at least have a decent story between fight scenes?
Why fling them around?
With this much force and precision - she could've gripped in not by equipment, but by the neck = instant decapitation.
because audio always helps. bitchin anime has to have a bitchin soundtrack
I'm stranger to the franchise but even I know adaptation deviated from manga greatly.
I think it improved over time. Not a great show, but it had some moments. Like salmon guy who seems like the confident and calm type who always mtains composure constantly getting shocked by the plot developments and the MCs. There's lots of talking but I think the MCs manage to banter through it quite well.
I certainly had fun watching it with /a/.
>magical cunt renders you mute
>get appointed as executive member of a council
>appointed to play main role in a musicale
What the actual fuck?
It's like milking /a/nons for spermbank with purpose of improving genepool.
I was making a joke because the area that webm takes place is looks similar a hallway in Metal Gear Solid. I've actually never heard of this manga/anime but it sounds interesting from what I found about it.
The stills may have looked good. The animation was often quite terrible or practically absent.
Demographics wasn't part of the argument, it was just 'muh imdb ratings ensure these are good''.
Yeah, there has been literally nobody besides me who thinks those are bad. Moron.
In the high economic growth period of Japan in the 1980s, there were many times investing in animation on tax countermeasures against money surplus. Naturally, there were many masterpieces, strange works, high-quality works anyway, with budget overlooked works. There is too much production budget for any animation, there is a talk about the production studio returning money to the sponsor.
Also, since we had not considered overseas exports from the beginning, there were almost no regulations. Today's animation is often considering political clinics, bleeding and violence scenes considering overseas exports.
I don't like how beams crisscross over the screen so close to the camera. It's exceedingly unlikely that there are multiple parties in space firing at each other that beams just happen to near-intersect in such a close volume.
I fucking love postapocalyptical setting with technology being treated as magic by the locals.
What else is there about it apart from D and maybe Moron's adventures?
Even lower budget stuff like KOR had good shading a fair amount of the time. Fist of the North Star and Zeta Gundam are other examples were there was good shading and facial details, even if they were not as advanced or as consistent as high budget OVAs and Movies.
Anyways, since the early 2010s Anime has started to move back towards more detailed faces, more shading and etc. I find that modern anime art style looks bland in comparison - but we are well out of that low point that the 00s occupied at least. Kabanari looked great to give one example.
To be fair, 2000 is basically still the 90s art wise.
Five Star Stories
Eh the more I watch pre 90s stuff the more this seems false. People do exaggerate it a bit - but on the whole you are more likely to watch a good looking 80s show then you are a good looking contemporary or especially a 00s show. Not by an extreme amount, but it is notable. Likewise the numerous high points like Akira, Royal Space Force, Zeorymer, Gunbuster, DYRL, etc, don't seem to quite be matched by contemporary high budget OVAs and movies. Some come close, a small minority even manage to do it, but the ratio between really great looking stuff to mediocre of bad looking stuff has definitely widened in a negative way since the late 80s.
I wish we could go back to the good old days of high quality OVAs with cutting edge artwork as shown in my pic. Sadly, all anime today is moeshit and stuff for kids, yuck.
There's a massive amount of selection bias going on. We only remember the outstanding pieces from back then. The rest never reached the west.
Today you can torrent every shitty new show or movie that will be forgotten in a few months.
On top of that individual seasons also crank out more shows than they did in the past.
Dem beautiful cels....
Why don't they make 'em like this anymore?
>cucks cherrypicking because everything made after their waifu's show must be shit
>cucks cherrypicking because everything made before their waifu's show must be shit
Anime is to /a/ as vidya is to /v/.
This. How could there have been CG anime back in the 90s? The technology didn't even exist back then!
But look at how shitty this old school 80s anime looks after being degrained in the BD release.
80s anime like pic related were the shit.
saint seiya? idk, they seemed to focus more on body structure, now its oval cilinder body. Shadows, details were used more. but i see what you mean, but still disappointed its not used more.
