You'll notice couple of clearly wrong translations if you have the voiced version of FSN. About half of the novel feels like edited google translated stuff. Some parts in HA is almost unreadable and it gets progressively worse. I hope they fix some of it on the voice patch.

In Don Quixote there's a quote about how you should learn different languages to truly underetand a novel, and Don Quixote itself has many parts that when translated from spanish lose half the meaning.

In general, translating East Asian languages is significantly harder than translating German/French/etc... into English, just from the lack of cultural/social context. A lot of concepts just fly right over the reader's head, those requires a rudimentary knowledge of the culture, not just 1-2 lines TL Note.

For example, FGO has a CE called Dragon's Meridian. In this scenario, localizing it into Leylines may have been better considering its just a name here, but if that ever comes up in a story context, its troublesome as hell, since its a pretty core part of Feng Shui.

Sumaga is a VN by Nitroplus. Makoto (currently employed by JAST) is considered the best translator in the scene, and the only one capable of doing Muramasa justice. Before being picked up by JAST he churned out Demonbane, Saya no Uta, Kikokugai and Hanachirasu. After being picked up by JAST, Hanachirasu and Demonbane got a commercial release, they did Steins;Gate after that, and for the last 4 or so years all they've released are nukige (proper porn games), while three projects Makoto was working on before getting paid (Sumaga/Django/Muramasa) have completely stalled.

Money. Mangagamers aren't super successful, but they make enough to stay afloat. Nekopara is relatively successful, enough to get the sequels translated. Fata Morgana is rated very highly, but had mediocre sales.

The sad truth is that nukige are easier to sell and translate. Unless you're a big name with massive hype behind it (Fate/Muv Luv/Steins Gate and other SciAdv games) and maybe a popular anime adaptation, story VN are hard as fuck to sell.

Gilgamesh is infatuated with Saber in Fate. That's really the only thing he seems to care about. It's Saber's route, so someone wanting to fuck Saber easily becomes an antagonist. In UBW, where can get Saber any time he wants by simply getting rid of Caster, something he does in Fate and he will eventually have to do in UBW, but he just doesn't. His goal suddenly becomes fucking humanity, not Saber. In Fate, he randomly tries to kill Shirou when Shirou is just dicking around with Saber. In UBW, when Shirou challenges him, he still doesn't kill him and walks away.

In HF, he becomes too much of a distraction. The focus is on other things, and Gilgamesh is too big of a threat to ignore. So they get rid of him randomly. He suddenly decides something extremely stupid, that humans should only be killed by him. Despite not caring at all about it any other routes. If a character defeats him in battle, that would make them too strong. So they needed him gone without a fight in HF. So he gets eaten by the shadow, without a fight. Others are blackened with the shadow, but if Gilgamesh is blackened, he'll just kill everyone. He's too much of a threat. So just Gilgamesh gets to be consumed, as the same rules don't apply to him.

I'm sure Gilfags and SNfags will defend his, but Gilgamesh in Stay Night was the worst Gilgamesh. Inconsistent and existing solely for plot convenience, as well as just generic arrogant bad guy

Once blackened, she is sharing body and soul with AM, but also being overwritten at the same time. There are talks in HF about "Sakura" being lost as she becomes the grail more and more, but I think that wasn't opaque enough for people to get.

She talks about "wanting to go into the outer world", and what does AM's function entail? Being born and fulfilling its purpose. The saddest part of that was her forgetting who Shirou is, so we can safely say she became AM then.

That, and Kirei did in the forest with Sakura the same thing he does with Shirou at the beginning of each route with the "Yorokobe shounen, kimi no negai wa youyaku kanau!" scene. Just like he played on Shirou's insecurities aboit the ideal, where he said that Shirou must feel relieved his wish for a villain to defeat to validate his ideal has come in the form of the war. With Sakura, he played on her insecurity of the shame about having the Shadow kill people and her running away from the fact that it was bound to her tangentially assuming responsibility (which is why Nasu phrased the situation the way he did, he said she became a mass murderer by proxy, but not that she herself was a mass murderer.).

Either way, Kirei did the same thing to Sakura he did to Shirou, play on her insecurities, since if we look at the nightmares, her personal talks with Shirou, and Liberation, pretty much prove that she doesn't have an inking in her heart to kill. Even when she was messing with Rin, she hesitated quite a lot when she was going for the final strike.
