The plot is surprisingly interesting.
Character design is great, specially the eyes.

Did we both watch Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e? Not a lot happened in episode 1. The ridiculous premise, the reason why I dropped it, and the students were introduced.

I'm not even him, but it's pretentious because they take a string of famous philosophers and quote them in an ominous serious fashion, and then proceed to "explore" their ideas through the poorly written adventures of a Japanese high school boy who's literally self insert bait for teenagers than think they're smarter than they actually. Episode one opens with some teenager making a big fuss over giving up a damn seat on a bus to an old lady and delivers an overblown speech about superiority in society. The story then focuses on a high school that tries to make out basic life skills as some top secret government training project through an absurd point system that puts more focus on shock value than actually helping anyone learn anything. Pretentious means something thinks it's smarter or more important than it is. Quoting a well recognized philosopher and then delivering a generic high school LN that pretends to explore those ideas in any meaningful way is the definition of pretentious.
