I think it can be interpreted as a wish fulfillment manga about a fat kid who can't deal with his own problems which in turn makes him escape into the virtual world where all of his problems disappear due to gaining improved looks and abilities he cannot achieve in his normal live which also make him into an addict of sorts that forces him to go back there again and again.
