They had plans though. Ability to lock and destroy all her fates that was interrupted by Charon and after that all 3 wouldn't be able to participate anymore. And finally they had a second Altair to beat the first using one of the more broken powers she had if everything else failed. And then they also accepted Souta's part as a backup of backup plan that required a miracle.

Altair is an interesting villain and the meaning of death is fuzzy, so the audience wants to see where Altair takes them to, "knowing" it will be daijoubu in the end. It's all scripted after all. She has proved her power and overcome many obstacles, including a powered up sister of hers with the addition of holopsicon, so to the audience it's up to her now to find a way to redeem herself and to fix it all. At least that's my interpretation of what the audience sees.
