They don't look like any race sans blacks because realism defeats expressiveness. Sometimes there are foreigners, and their art style will be obviously different from the regular cast. Whites are typically drawn taller, more muscular, with a more masculine face. While the Japanese characters are scrawny, short, and look weak. So I would say that these characters definitely look very Japanese.
Compare the Italian Chad (from Bleach) to the Japanese Uryuu Ishida.
Chad is a big masculine white guy, and Ishida is a weak Japanese fuckboy
