The closest is in volume 6 where he felt a pang of guilt in deleting her birthday message or when he bothered to remember Karuizawa's birthday.

In most of their interactions with each other, the only emotion the MC shows is annoyance by her asking a lot of questions. But he still answers her truthfully which does shows he trust her.

Karuizawa is definitely falling for the MC there's no mistake about that. But the other way around is not as clear cut.

From a plot-perspective, that scene might as well have never happened. Those popularity polls are often misleading. They just ask what's your favourite character. They don't answer the question how angry you will be if X character is expelled/killed/removed from the story. People who have Horikita as their favourite girl and Sakura as their 2nd fav girl may still be very upset about Kushida getting expelled.

That's why authors extremely rarely kill/remove even unpopular characters.
