Abyssals have really unique aesthetics. I prefer abyssal design more than most shipgirls, the whole mechanic theme is quite interesting, but it also could explain a bit the boats.

Shame that nobody gives a fuck and they aren't going dig that deeper, the anime tried but the execution is shit. Not using them for some kind of spin off is also a crime.

Well yeah but in the series, prior to Akagi going "wait, perhaps we shouldn't do it like this", the battles were recreations of the WWII ones. Kaga (and Fubuki) having sunk before basically throw this whole avoid the mistakes of the past narrative down the drain.

I just don't get why the TV show didn't just have mostly slice of life, Jokes poking fun at the game and at least having the more popular characters show up.

Instead they tried to make it serious and the tone was all over the place. They also butchered Ooi so hard just to make WOAH YURI LOL jokes. It felt like 6 different writers were making different projects and they just slammed it all together.

I would have liked it better if each episode was a storyline involving a group of ships, 1 episode with the sendai class, 1 with the kuma class, another with all the battleship girls, etc. Instead, it's just a garbled mess that tried way to hard.

I vaguely remember an interview where they stated it was going to be more like that, but I'm not sure if it was before or after it got delayed.

The TV series does seem to have traces of an episodic setup left, except with a shitty and poorly planned story on top, so I guess a higher up just didn't like the idea and made them change it or whatever..

I'd like to provide a proposition. Many of you will call me a heretic, but I only recently got into FATE Series, and I just finished watching all the GudaGuda Order episodes. They were so hilarious and it had maximum rewatch value. I can't stop repeating all 9 episodes at work (listening while I work, I work in warehouse environment) and at night when I return home. The different characters interacting with each other in unimaginable and ironic ways is simply too charming.

Simply put, even if animation is utter Windows Powerpoint shit, if KC had this sort of route, I think it'd be very enjoyable. Thoughts?

My manager was like "wtf are you listening to, son," but anyways I just loved every single reaction from Mordred and Saber Lily... if we translated that to KC, I'd say characters involving drunk characters and battleships would be pure amusing with a hint of an adult theme. I don't even care about the animation from GudaGuda, it was already charming in its own way and I have this urge to try out FGO now.

Though, I'd prefer if an SOL anime isn't a direct rip of "Fubuki Ganbarimasu manga," that series was kind of boring for me, in my honest opinion.

The difference is that it actually works as a standalone work and doesn't suffer from the tonal problems of the anime series. It's not a great work by any stretch of the imagination, but between the movie or the anime, I'd pick the movie, particularly so if someone isn't already into Kancolle beforehand.

It doesn't, characters aren't properly introduced so they will feel even less interesting for someone who skipped the anime or is unfamiliar with the franchise. It might not suffer from tonal problems but that's because you have even more awful drama over silly and fun scenes which were one of the few redeeming qualities of the anime.
