Mr. Fullswing. Working on catching up to my monthly pace so two more at least this month.

Also, would anyone know where to find a different language scan for the last chapter of Gringo 2081?
I have the translation and I wanna typeset it.
>>

See if it has an ebook.

I'm working really hard on making others do their work on time

Trying to work on Beastars, Maou-sama Chotto Sore Totte, and Watashi no Shounen at a weekly pace. It's nice that I get to work on projects I like (since I'm the leader) but I'm literally the only translator left in the group, so that's pretty rough.
>>
>>161821877
Damn, is that why LOGH hasn't been getting any love lately?
>>
Do you think anyone will start scanlating Hanasaku Iroha again?
>>
>>161822324
That, and couple of other manga I've put on the shelf for the time being. I decided to make LotGH my lowest priority, since my higher-priority projects don't have prior adaptations. Plus, the latest chapter is 77 or so. I really wish I had another translator for that, but I feel like they should be fans of the anime and Gaiden, and willing to research the wiki and whatnot, to do so, in addition to the challenging difficulty of the text.
These are exceedingly high standards, which is probably why I'm the only translator in my group.

I can see that, did you drop Zelda because of licensing or nah?
>>

Please ask me to do that thing a few more times, leader-kun. If you're persistent I might do it by tomorrow.
>>
When you're exporting something in photoshop with Save for web, what's the difference between png-8 selective colors and adaptive colors?
>>
>>161823228
selective and adaptive are different algorithims for lowering the amount of colours in an images look up table.

Perceptual
Creates a custom color table by giving priority to colors for which the human eye has greater sensitivity.

Selective
Creates a color table similar to the Perceptual color table, but favoring broad areas of color and the preservation of web colors. This color table usually produces images with the greatest color integrity. Selective is the default option.

Adaptive
Creates a custom color table by sampling colors from the predominant spectrum in the image. For example, an image with only the colors green and blue produces a color table made primarily of greens and blues. Most images concentrate colors in particular areas of the spectrum.
>>
>>161822972
Nah, I plan on going on a rampage with Zelda after I'm done doing catching up to the next four chapters of Konjiki no Word Master (popular isekai manga with chuuni protagonist, picking it up was my fellow founder's idea).
>>
>>161823751
I see, thank you for explaining it. I was just wondering what the best option was. Guess I'll stick with selective then.
>>
>>161822990
Well, I'm pretty sure I'll finish translating those three manga chapters by Monday or Tuesday. Every other position should be taken care of, I think, if that's what you're talking about.
>>
>>161823889
From what I gather, the rule of thumb is to save B&Ws with adaptive, and colors with selective, as far as PNG is concerned.

I don't know if it's just my computer being low on memory or something, but whenever I try to save 600dpi images in index adaptive they turn out gray-ish.

Selective is fine, and the pages are still white, and from what I can tell they are no different.

>if and when I do so, doesn't fix the redraw unless specifically asked
so glad that I brought you on board
>>
>>161838360
It makes sense though, unless the redrawer just loves doing it and has enough time to fully redraw everything.
It shouldn't be a problem to make changes and request redraw touch ups though.
>>
>>161838426
I'd rather do full redraws than make changes or touch-ups. It's like you've crammed all the shit in your room into your closet, only to have someone open it up again and everything comes spilling out.

>>161838360
Go fuck yourself. You could take a nap, think things through, make edits to your script, take another nap, retypset everything and then jerk off for a whole day. All of that would consume less time than me doing full redraws, and I'd be working for the whole time.
>>
>>161838730

You seem to all be missing the point. This person is taking for granted the fact that I did something nice for them. They did not complain about the work prior to this. Nor do they express any gratefulness for the change in order.

The original deal was that they'd redraw stuff, and then the rest of the team would make the chapter. We might not have taken them on if the deal was reversed. They're just trying to take advantage of the opportunity, and that's rude.
>>
>>161838931
It's your call, then. My point is that script and typesetting edits are made because the translator and typesetter hadn't put enough effort before sending me the chapter for redraws. It shouldn't be expected of me do to do a much more tedious job to cover for their incompetence/laziness.

Last ditch effort for trash scans. Whether or not it's worth the hit to the image depends on an individual basis.

We do it because you wouldn't be reading mangas other than what Viz wants you to read (which is basically only Jump.) Most publishing companies get their licenses according to what scanlators work on.
I think 3/4 of the things I work on would get licensed if there wasn't a scanlating scene or they didn't get anime

And my groups don't beg for donations/patreon money because asking money for pirate shit is dumb and could get us in trouble.

When did you start scanlating? And it still sounds like you stuck with scanlation for readers rather than enjoying the hobby itself, i.e. e-peen.
>>
>>161850514
I got there last time the registration was open and that was like 2-3 years ago, nowadays you'd probably have to ask the re-haruka admin for an invite (and prove you have some 自炊 to upload), he runs both sites
The place has gone to shit now tho, there are barely any 自炊 uploads and all of them are shitty digital raws, old links are long dead, nobody has posted anything in the magazine subforum since haruka shutdown (they didn't have any early raws anyway if you're after those)
>>
>>161850638
Interesting, wasn't aware of that.

I hate to further beg for spoonfeeding but is there some sort all-in-one guide for potential translators? Maybe even a list of works that aren't being scanlated? I'll take the other anon's advice into consideration and try it. If I hate it or if I suck then I'll stop. Simple as that.
>>
>>161850753
>When did you start scanlating?
2007.
>And it still sounds like you stuck with scanlation for readers rather than enjoying the hobby itself
No. Stop making assumptions, ya dummy. I enjoy localizing manga. I did keep doing it for free for the readers, it has nothing to do with e-peen but the fact that no one else would do the niche works I was doing and I wanted people to read great manga. I still do lettering, but now I do it professionally. Scanlation isn't worth it because if you are decently prolific, it will destroy your life. It's a job that you don't get paid for.
>>
>>161850862

2007 is definitely not the "early days" of scanlation.

>It's a job that you don't get paid for.

>>
>>161850349
>You guys do all this for free? What the hell is wrong with you?
I enjoy reading manga, which was only possible because other people translated it to English. So now I'm giving back to the community and helping other people to enjoy the manga that I'm working on.
>>
>>161850763
I'm just curious about how much stuff got uploaded there in comparison to old Haruka.
I upload some jisui every once in a while but I don't think it's enough for an invite, I couldn't talk to a nip mod anyway.
>>
>>161850923
It's obvious you just want to verbally fight. Fuck yourself, idiot.

>>161850979
Yes, but lettering is honestly not a great job. I do it only because I love the work. Like any art oriented job, you only do it because it's a passion and you hope it affords a decent lifestyle. You have to really sell yourself to make it in the industry.
>>
>>161851128

I'm just pointing out how stupid you sound, anon. Just because you turned bitter about selling out for your hobby doesn't mean others will do the same.
>>
>>161851090
On average you'd get around 5-10 new tank uploads every day so the number was close to the amount that got uploaded on haruka, but much of what was being uploaded never got posted on haruka by someone else later (because it was the less popular stuff) and you had people uploading scanned raws too
>>
>>161851128
You one of those jewcob whores too?

>>161839085
>>161839184
I prefer to redraw the entire thing, then make sure the typesetting covers up any shitty parts. With typesetting first, you have to make everything not covered look good, but if you redraw first, you can eventually give up on that one part that looks shitty and position the text to cover it.
It definitely takes longer, but I think the final result is better.

No. I work for Japanese digital publishers. It's a much better working environment than western companies.

On average, how long does a page with no redraw take? from raw scan to cleaned. Currently trying to improve my speed.

3-4 min top

Yeah right.

It depends entirely on the page itself.
How much text there is to clean, the quality of the paper it was printed on, the shape of the text bubbles, the scan resolution, etc etc.

My scan backlog is finally getting smaller. I'll scan this anthology tomorrow. 410 glossy pages.

Twice as long as half a page.

Wow, that's a lot faster than I can do.
>>
>>161851915
That's really fast, will try to aim for that time too.

How does scan resolution affect cleaning time? Is it better to clean low or high res?
>>
>>161853007
Scan resolution affects lettering, cleaning and redrawing time.

>will try to aim for that time
You can aim for it, but you'll never reach it on the average page.
