"Watching it for her" doesn't mean I like the show, I just didn't drop it because of her. I hate what they did to Altair. It should have been a show about her from the beginning if Hiroe decided to take that approach in the end anyway.

Altair is also a boring exposition bot who does dumb shit with poor motives and terrible ways of ever fulfilling them. She's practically absent for half of the series, characters around her lose all chances of being fleshed out or getting notable screen time, she's never received development as a fleshed-out character or a crippled plot device, and there's a horrible divide between the "popular" Internet her and the villainous her where it's impossible to tell why she ever got popular and her powers effectively get made up on the spot.

So it was Altair who said "My dear companion" to Setsuna. At least that part of the episode one foreshadowing is cleared up. This suggests Altair eventually leaves on good terms with Setsuna and the the world. "I might be you or might not be" actually makes sense now.

Altair has a great design and some scenes with her are worth watching. I hate her as a character but that's more than what can be said about the rest of the cast.
Good guys are supposed to be over the top otherwise they just feel bland. "I want to save the world because muh honor/muh world/muh revenge/muh oath/I'm a protagonist". I've seen this gay little story so many times I just can't bring myself to care and lack of any character interaction certainly doesn't help. Altair's design is a mess. The hat's too big and front-heavy, it needs special sections just for her hair, the hair blends together too much and has no definition, the pigtails don't really stand out at all, the arm band can't stay up because it's too big and the designers fucked up, the dress awkwardly billows out, the heels are too steep, the spurs are useless, she wears no pants and is thus poorly balanced and ruins her look when seen from below (and she likes to fly a lot at that), she has no place to keep her actual weapons, and the brown things on the dress serve no function and would be horrible for holding swords and/or guns (if that's even their purpose) even if she used them for anything.

As for scenes, all she does is say some vague shallow shit and bitch. It's nothing. It doesn't connect, it doesn't fit a proper theme, and she doesn't even have a lack of theme and being incomplete as her character. She's just an all-around disaster and as generic and worthless as the lot of them.

The animators are idiots for not raising their complaints when the design was first made. It's foolish to let something the team can't draw be approved for the series. Regardless, the design really is a clusterfuck, but that has nothing to do with how easy or hard it is to draw. The problem with this show is that the focus is all wrong. The focus of this show is on the Creators, the people who make anime: However, the only people who are actually remotely interesting are the Creations!

I mean, I don't give a shit about Tomino, but I like Amuro from Mobile Suit Gundam. Same for (to use a plebian example) Reki Kawamura and, say, Kirito from SAO.

Creators, like most people in real life, are REALLY BORING INDIVIDUALS. Miura is way less interesting than Guts and Griffith, because he's just a nerd who likes Idolmaster way too much. The show should have focused nigh-exclusively on the Creations, with flashbacks as to their 'anime'. In fact, Souta probably shouldn't even have existed.

It's like how Blitz's arc shouldn't have ended with him getting his daughter back. His arc should've ended with him about to shoot femUrobochi, and then he finds himself looking down the barrel of Code: Babylon's actual protagonist, who has been summoned to face him down.

Then it should have ended with Blitz trying - and failing - to outdraw him, and his sidekick saying, sadly "...I was always faster than you. I'm sorry." and Blitz going "You really have become...an excellent detective..." before perishing.
