At a cursory glance, you've got a game with permadeath where you fight zombie ships and recreate historical battles where your ships died the first time. Of course nobody actually sinks their ships, nobody treats the abyssals like some sworn enemy, and the historical backdrop only serves to accentuate or take a backseat to the slice of life moments. The anime was clearly the work of someone looking for an easy paycheck and Kadokawa enabling them like idiots when a bit more effort could have brought so much more back. It's all the parts of the franchise no one cares about with some real middle fingers to the fans thrown in. Frankly, the first season started on good notes, but went to shit when things were a drag with Fubuki and her complexes, while the rest of the girls were acting as nothing was happening.

While a GuP version of kancolle would work, it isn't really far fetched to have an anime with a more serious tone, which kind of worked in the movie, if it wasn't for the abyssal fubuki subplot and how Kisagari subplot ended.
Honestly, it was just kancolle IBS right there, it would have been entertaining.

This anime made me want to scrap my Fubuki again after getting her to Kai 2 for a quest. The anime is just bad for your health.

I'd also point out that it felt like the anime staff didn't actually know what kind of game KanColle was.
