I think he said in the JoJoveller Stand commentary or somewhere similar that he named it Going Underground originally but changed his mind very quickly after seeing the album cover art work for Born This Way which featured Lady Gaga's head mounted on the front of a motorbike, which he found more fitting. It's really not. Jolyne's friends all had individual reasons for liking her, but none of them ever had the mad, blind admiration that Giorno's group had for him after literal days.

Hermes initially bonded with her before her trial, and after they got their stands they stayed close, helping each other out until Jolyne proved her worth by assisting with the Sports Maxx shit. They probably get the most scenes where they just get to be buddies out of any of the group.

Foo Fighters admired Jolyne because she spared her life and gave her a new purpose, which was infinitely more interesting than sitting around a warehouse, killing everyone who came near. Though her time was brief, she had plenty of interactions with Jolyne during it.

Jolyne risked her life to save and protect Emporio, and continued to be kind and nurturing to him wherever possible. They get plenty of scenes where they're shown just being friends. He asked Weather to help her out in return.

Weather didn't give a shit about Jolyne at first and was only doing Emporio a favor, but his interest was piqued when he saw that she was the only one in the prison actually DOING stuff, and her encounters with Whitesnake meant he might find a lead on his memories.

Anasui saw a little of all of the above and became infatuated with her. This is the only relationship that can be even compared to the ones Giorno's group had with him - and the fact that Anasui had sexual and romantic motives where the VA squad didn't is also a factor.

You need to reread embarrassingly badly if you think Giorno's charisma is anything even close to anything other characters have, other than DIO and his deadly charm and Jonathan, who earned his entire bloodline lifetime loyalty by not kicking a man in the face as hard as he could have.

I think it's down to people either genuinely forgetting, or people who don't understand that much about human relationships, and think that anyone who can make a group of people admire them is basically magic. They're outraged by the double standard of Jolyne's group caring about her because they don't actually see or get the difference in how she treated them compared to how Giorno was like with his crew.

There's also probably just writing-differences, too - in Stone Ocean, the characters all had pretty fleshed-out relationships with Jolyne but hardly any with each other, whereas in VA it's the opposite, where the characters are already friends and the MC is the outsider instead of what brings them together. It feels as though Araki really wanted to emphasize how important Giorno was to his friends, but due to them getting the lions share of interactions with each other instead of him it just came out looking strange.

It comes off as really clumsy and forced, making secondary characters sing the praises of the MC and rave about how much they admire him to try and make the reader feel the same. When they get to the island, find the money and Buccellati gets promoted, Mista gets an inner monologue about how it only happened after Giorno joined them - even though he didn't see the (small) role Giorno played in Soft Machine (Which was literally just fucking off so Abbacchio could do the work) and Giorno was absent for 90% of his fight with Sale, literally getting left behind. He also gets that moment with Giorno after White Album, but given how Giorno saved his life there it's pretty justified.

I already talked about Clash and Talking Head there, and how terrible it was.

In Spice Girl, Giorno doesn't play much of a role - all he does is unwittingly bring Notorious B.I.G aboard the plane by insisting on touching Carne's corpse, and then gets attacked and incapacitated by it. Since he lost his hand, Trish and the newly-summoned Spice Girl have to retrieve the copy he made. Spice Girl makes a speech about how Giorno made Trish evolve.

Fugo gets a couple of scenes where he sucks Giorno's cock - the first is after the MITM stuff, which is semi-justified given how he saved his life (not like other characters hadn't done that before though without getting any thanks) and the second is when he turns cars to frogs.

And as for characters doing amazing stuff and NOT getting bombarded with silent monologues about how great they are it happens constantly with pretty much every other character. Mista got shot full of holes on multiple occasions, Narancia refused to talk in spite of being under heavy torture and killed two enemies at once, Buccellati literally tore himself to pieces, Abbacchio let himself get fucked up by both Soft Machine and later MITM in order to help his comrades, even Trish did really well in Notorious B.I.G.

The issue with Giorno is that his actions aren't really any better than those of his comrades, but because he's supposed to be Jesus he gets a ton of scenes where he's showered with awe and admiration from people who barely know him, whereas the other characters feel more grounded and compelling since they aren't and don't.
He also had an absolutely shitty conclusion, played a relatively minor role in the clusterfuck that was SCR and then didn't even get a proper fight with the main villain before the focus switched firmly to Mista and Buccellati, didn't even get to see him actually using his Don powers or anything.

For that matter, I'm pretty sure Jap fans generally liked Joseph as a character more than Jotaro, Jotaro simply held/holds more brand-recognition. Sort of like Mario and Luigi, Mario's more recognizable as the posterboy of the series but virtually everyone likes Luigi more.

Well, I wasn't in Japan to experiece this so I can't answer. Jotaro has the most iconic poses/moments that everyone tries to recreate. No one does Polnareff poses for example. Same goes for Giorno. Also just look at the cosplays, those two were and probably still are dominating

Not really, it was a pretty faithful adaptation. There were some nice scenes in Part 4 that were skipped and the infamous Waldo scene in 3 that was cut but nothing important. I'd recommend going back to read them after you've caught up though, if only because 3 and 4 worked better in manga format, but you won't miss anything by starting at 5.

Hey, here's something that I though about, could Steel Ball Run have more parallels to the birth of Christ? Lucy Steel and Stephen Steel the virgin Mary and Joseph, because of pressure (With Funny Valentine potentially starting the idea of the race) from a leader they leave their home on the west and travel
to where Stephen's original home likely was considering the fact that he was born of European immigrants, which likely would have originally gone to the each coast. As the birth of Christ approaches the three magi approach to bring gifts to the newborn savior, and throughout the journey Johnny, Gyro, and Hotpants all give Lucy corpse parts sometime on the journey. Eventually after the voyage to the new city Lucy gives birth to Jesus Christ without ever getting her funk on with anybody (beside Funny Valentine just a little bit).

We're at chapter 68 (of monthly releases) and we still don't even know if Jobin is the big bad, or some other unknown Rokakaka madman scientist, or a rock human, or whatever.

To be fair we don't really get a direct confirmation of the main villain except when it's really obvious like DIO. Kira could very well have been another Akiraij a lot of people's eyes right up until the Part ended, and Valentine was undoubtedly a major villain but not really confirmed as the main villain until about Civil War. JoJolion is a mystery story too, so it's naturally going to take longer for things to become clear. It's got another 3 years minimum to go anyway, but something tells me it's going to be quite a bit longer than SBR considering it's been monthly from the beginning and doesn't have a time limit in-universe like SBR did. SBR felt kind of confused on whether it should focus on the race or the corpse parts and how long it should be, which might be because of the magazine switch and Araki having to reassess what he wanted SBR to be since he probably didn't start SBR intending it to last 7 years when the next longest before then which was DiU only ran for 3 and a half years. The holy corpse and Valentine weren't revealed or even hinted at until the first full length monthly chapter of SBR. Which makes it feel like Araki only came up with them then or had a different story he wanted to write but decided to combine with SBR since he wouldn't have time to write it otherwise with how long SBR would be, and it shows in how the beginning, middle and end feel so wildly different and how there were a lot of dropped characters and plot lines. The final third we got was excellent but it felt completely different to what it started as and like the race and time limit had become an obstacle to the story he wanted to tell rather than a framing device. JJL on the other hand doesn't have a time limit or anything like that and it's been monthly from the start so it feels like a much better fit for monthly chapters, and being a mystery story he can tackle multiple genres as he feels like them instead of being constrained to one for 7 years.
