So why exactly does everyone consider this show a masterpiece? What is so special about it?
>"please spoonfeed my opinions" thread
>>161761191
No it is not. I just finished it, and it was nothing that special. Sure it was good, but it was like a 7.5/10, not a perfect 10/10 that everyone in the world makes it out to be. I just wanted to know, why it is so over rated.
>>161761215
>I thought it wasn't that good, but I won't tell you why I thought it wasn't that good, so can you tell me why you think it's good?
No. Fuck off.
>>161761169
3/10 and im being generous.
Did you even watch it? It's pretty obvious why it's so highly praised. You can meme about pretentiousness, but the writing is a step above the vast majority of anime and the visual direction is interesting. It's a show that manages to absolutely carry a fairly dull premise (it's just groundhog day in college except bill murray doesn't realize he's in a time loop) on exceptional execution. There's no secret to it, it's just well made.
Might as well ask here, is the movie that's semi-related to this subbed yet?
>>161761169
I absolutely agree OP. I watched it expecting it to be god's gift to man based on how people talk about it and it was like a 7.5 or 8 at most. Like it was definitely good, well-made, well-executed, and interesting to watch it wasn't this pinnacle of anime achievement or anything.
Not even close to the best Yuasa work either. I liked Kemonozume, Kaiba, Mind Game, and Ping Pong better.
>>161761215
I thought the same thing when I finished it, but then I remembered it's an anime so good means 10/10 masterpiece.
>>161762632
>Not even close to the best Yuasa work either.
Honestly I find most of Yuasa's work to be mediocre. It's all about MUH CRAZY ARTSTYLE. Kaiba was garbage. Ping pong was okay and Tatami galaxy was meh. Dont know why he is so praised.
It's boring and repetitive until the final few episodes, so you it literally gets good at around 8 episodes. People only remember those last episodes and not the torture leading up to it.
>>161761191
This. Why is OP always a fucking mongoloid?
>>161763151
>Dont know why he is so praised.
because he's one of the few spices of variety in the stale incestuous anime industry.
>>161762632
>watched it expecting it to be god's gift to man based on how people talk about it
Then it's your fault for being a retard.
>>161761169
First and foremost, it's new. Specifically post-2010, which is something people really seem to care about. Secondly, it's unique in a lot of ways, so it stands out. And finally it's pretty good. The story is pretty interesting and it has a good payoff. It's well animated and the visuals are impressive.
>>161763151
Mostly just anime hipsters. The dumb Yuasa dick suckers aren't much better, it's funny to see them praise Yuasa to the heavens for ping pong despite him adding nothing to what was already a near perfect manga. If anything the anime is much worse than the manga and even the live action film which at least wasn't a bad carbon copy like Yuasa's attempt.
Because the last episode is that good.
>>161763223
>because he's one of the few spices of variety in the stale incestuous anime industry.
Being different, does not make you good. His crap gets praised for its artsy fartsy art style, the same way as Shinkai's crap gets praised for it's super deatailed art style.
>>161763151
Kaiba's ending was really rushed I agree, kind of wish it had remained an episodic space adventure or at least been longer.
Mind Game is one of the best anime movies imo. It's not even about the artstyle. The entire thing is dripping with energy, imagination, and beauty. It was my first exposure to him and it colored everything I watched afterwards. He's definitely one of the few creators in the industry who are willing to break the mold and innovate.
Also, if you haven't, watch Kemonozume. It's a dark fantasy romance and probably one of my all-time favorites.
>>161763233
It's literally in half the people on this board's 3x3. I kept seeing it praised everywhere along with stuff like Texhnolyze (which I loved) and Cowboy Bebop and shit so I thought that it must be pretty damn good to be listed along with the greats.
>>161761169
It's endless 8 in a slightly more digestible form. Fags just like repetition I suppose.
>>161763389
Please stop thinking those circle jerkers are representative of this board, there are only like five of them in there anyways
>>161763389
>It's literally in half the people on this board's 3x3.
You do know that you can't make a 3x3 without a Yuasa work in it, right? People just wont take you seriously, if you dont have any.
>>161763325
you're saying he's overrated and i'm saying he's popular because he's different.
we're not in disagreement here.
So let me get this straight:
>Ping pong was based on an already great manga. Yuasa just gave it his art style.
>Kaiba started out slow yet interesting, but went to shit at the end.
>Nobody saw Kemonozume.
>Tatami galaxy started out boring and only had a strong ending.
Sounds like we have a hack on our hands.
>>161763489
But what if the guy actually likes all of those shows?
>>161763543
>Yuasa just gave it his art style
Not even that
>>161763151
>>161763263
>why is he SO praised
>what a mastapiece :D
>stop sucking Yuasa's dick aaaaaaaaaaaa
What? There's no middle ground for you guys. You can like something without worshipping the ground the creator walks on.
>>161763543
>Tatami galaxy started out boring
It was fine throughout.
>>161764306
Then what the fuck did he even do there? And why is it labeled as a yuasa masterpiece?
>>161765124
Directing is a little more complex than what you think.
>>161765258
Yeah, but he didn't contribute to anything. He didn't make up the story, nor the art style. So, this should be called Yuasas adaptation of a masterpiece.
the watashi fucker talks way too fast
For an anime to approach personalities with more than a single layer of characteristics means that it's a 15/10 anime, anime of the decade contender
>>161765387
This. People really underestimate how shallow most TV anime is.
Anything that even tries to convey some sort of message is already far above average.(see: Utena, Ping Pong, Tatami Galaxy etc.)
>>161765345
I thought Ping Pong was great because it was one of the first manga-to-anime adaptations that actually used the manga format in animation. It had a lot of paneling in the show which I thought was cool and managed to create a pacing of scenes that couldn't exist in regular manga/comics. The ending of the Peco and Dragon match in the show slowed down a ton compared to the quickness earlier in the match while in the manga it really just felt the same all the way through.
>>161765442
>>161765387
There is tons of anime out there, that has that stuff. Enough to make Tatami galaxy blend in with all of them.
I actually consider it one of the weakest shows of Yuasa. Thus said, even his weakest works are great.
>>161765523
Name 8.
>>161766708
Legend of the Galactic heroes
Neon genesis Evangelion
Katanagatari
Monster
Trigun
Bersek
GITS;SAC
Revolutionary girl Utena
Princess Tutu etc. etc.
watch Mind Game to learn Yuasa's directorial language
then proceed to Tatami Galaxy which is the least like his own
>>161766913
Mind Game really is his only directorial work that feels like pure, unrestrained Yuasa. Maybe it's because everything else was adapted from an existing work. Though I don't get the impression from Lu either, but then there's the whole Flash thing he's moved to. People change I guess.
>>161766871
Katanagatari and Utena are the only ones that fit what that anon was saying. Tutu was great but in a different way to what's being talked about really.
>>161761169
It's a 9/10
>>161761169
It's Endless Eight but not by KyoAni, so of course everyone loves it.
>>161767438
This comparison is so retarded
>>161761380
the dialogue was just literally a copy-paste from the book though thus why watashi was narrating too fast
I'd say Mind Game is the best thing Yuasa ever did, it's so full of energy i can't imagine a person who would watch an escape scene without a huge dumb grin on his face.
I don't strictly dislike Tatami but i had considerable difficulties forcing myself to watch it, and it's his only work that had this effect on me.
>>161761191
>>161763208
>asking for people's opinions about anime is now bad
This is literally how you start a conversation.
>>161761544
Nope
>>161763489
this image was made by a butthurt moefag after he kept being called out for being a manchild. he then cried into his (extra large) body pillow. posting it doesn't mean anything.
>>161767236
I was talking to 2 anons in that post. One wanted non shallow anime and anime with some message, the other wanted anime that has characters who have more than a single layer of characteristics. I showed examples of all three. Also, both Berserk and Eva showcase amazing characters who are multi dimensional.
>>161766664
Not really. Kaiba was just bad.
>>161773247
No, it wasn't. It got clearly rushed but overall it was still quite a solid work. And you just can't make anything descent out of endless eight concept no matter who you are.
>>161773518
>No, it wasn't. It got clearly rushed but overall it was still quite a solid work.
The begining was episodic and boring. Once it got rolling in the second half, it went to shit. It just left things unexplained and it did not have a good ending. As a work, it's mediocre at best.
Btw in which way is the movie related to the serie ?
>>161773685
>It just left things unexplained
it explained pretty much everything
> it did not have a good ending
kaiba is destroyed, main characters survived, hell even memory merchant survived, there's no more cloud so the whole social system will most likely change in near future for better or worse, quite a solid ending
