I mean, I didn't care all that much but it was pretty shitty. What the ending essentially boiled down to was all of Machi's development (however small it was) getting tossed put the window and Natsu enabling his longtime friend's problems because he was selfish and afraid of being left behind. I was personally rooting for Machi to do her best but it just kind of came to nothing.

He gave them free reign to do whatever since he had a good friend in production, the first few episodes were just how he had imagined them, and he said he wanted to be surprised alongside the rest of the fans and watch it as it aired.
Said he was pretty shocked and very disappointed with the anime original ending arc, etc

Finished watching this a couple days ago after being stuck at episode 10 or whatever for over a year. Man the ending was depressing as fuck. Feels like it could have been somehow salvaged if Machi would have gotten over her fears and hallucinations at the idol show thing, instead of running away back to her village to live forever with the creepy as fuck bear parent figure.

Absolutely oppressive last few episodes. Main character doesn't have a say in anything as adults put her through hell without a single worry about what she wants or needs. Mental breakdowns and child abuse, that's obviously what anyone would want from an anime that starts as a light-hearted comedy.

One of the BDs had her mention she wants to go to Tokyo after all, I guess that's supposed to imply she conquered her traumas and all is good now. Really wasn't enough for me to get over the ending, though.

At least the character design is really cute. I love her ainu-style clothes.
