Assuming you missed the last thread - no, he's not dead. Utsumi orders the police to get Hanayama to a hospital, posthaste. Baki tells Musashi that he's going to put him in the ground.

Those are really the only important bits of dialogue you need before the raws come out and I can fully translate it.

In the manga, it's specifically pointed out how these guys aren't just any fighters. They're fighters that are LEAGUES above even the average martial arts master, to the point where even carrying a sword against them is useless because somebody like the Biscuit Oliva could probably just break that shit with his damn body if it was swung at it.

Then in comes Musashi, who's already top tier unarmed, but armed with swords, he's a god-tier fighter that's virtually unbeatable. These fighters are absolutely intoxicated at the idea of fighting a powerful opponent like him. They literally seek out fights, and Musashi to them is like how Moby Dick was to Ahab. It's a REALLY strong fighter who, while it's out of their league to fight him, they want to do it anyway since they can't ignore their fighting urges.
