Monogatari is just a series that doesn't translate well (for obvious reasons), but it's still disappointing how the novel translation still manages to fuck up. You at least have to creative freedom to make substantial chances if needed, where as in the anime you're greatly restricted to the timing of dialogue. I mean it's just a lazy translation, you don't have to follow what the passage is saying directly if you're going to fuck up the characterization anyways.

Not entirely. Black Hanekawa was a new oddity made from another oddity and human combining. That is why she was special, she made an oddity want to join with her and became another being. And then she made another oddity just from her emotions, not a catalyst.

Which is odd why Gaen and Oshino never actually reign her in and train her, they let someone that gifted just roam free, but yet try to inform and train people like Araragi and Nadeko.

Rather than combining, It seems that Tsubasa consumed it. She was just acting in Neko:kuro. When Shinobu drained her in Neko:Kuro, Tsubasa's consciousness split into two. You could also say that it was the stray cat but from the looks of it, It is tsubasa as well. That is why Tsubasa said that the cat is part of her the same as Kako. So when she took them in again, she regain every part of herself. Although it seems like they are are different entity, the three of them are part of the whole, which is Tsubasa. That is what is special about her. it is a level higher than multiple personality because she could literally remove them from herself. She was not able to totally separate the cat from her because you can't really separate the "stress" part of yourself (or it is just a plot hole).

Ougi is far away from that because Araragi together with Shinobu created an entirely sentient oddity. If it was the same as Tsuabsa, he would have taken back Ougi back to himself. Ougi is more comparable to the Rainy Devil because like her, that oddity is birthed from someone and not severed. that is the reason why it ended up being mummified and chopped off.
