I think I remember that Gaen said that Kaiki would not die even if you want him to (when/where she said that I can't remember and I hope some anon will tell us). It is like, you could kill him again and again but if he does not believe it to be true, then it is not true. That is pretty awesome in itself. He was able to manifest something that does not even exist and the darkness does not have a problem with it. It means that he has enough authority to alter reality. That explain why he denies their existence even though he knows they exist. It is similar to Eucliwood in kore wa zombie desu ka. Every word she say becomes reality. In Kaiki's case, every oddity he visualize gets manifested. To prevent them from materializing, he has to deny it and make everyone believe that he is a "fake". Why does everybody needs to think that? It is for their own safety. If you are not susceptive enough then it will not work. He said it himself in Nise and Koi.

He say that he hates things that cannot be replaced but the truth is that he is just afraid to get hurt again. Listen, if you haven't figured it out by now, Monogatari is NARRATED by the characters. As a result what is presented in the character's point of view. Kaiki was narrating that arc, and simply put, he thought ending it with him dying was more interesting than the truth.

Look at the whole Sodachi arc, Araragi knew what the fuck was going on. He just didn't want to admit what a fuckwad he was. He didn't want to face how much he fucked up. So he avoids the truth as much as the story allows him to; then glosses it over.

Look at the backgrounds when other characters are narrating. When Araragi or Hanakawa narrate, there is no one in the background. When Araragi narrates his parents don't exist. When Hanakawa araragi's mother exists. When Nadeko narrates, the world is filled with background characters, in fact the whole atmosphere is claustrophobic.

There should be a rule that bans ESLs with shitty English like that one guy ITT.
