The problem I foresee with the realism of the setting is that Japan seems like the place where they outlaw manual mode driving on public roads in order to protect the greater good. It also seems like the place where the vehicles would have GPS enabled mode selection so that you cannot enable manual mode depending on where you are and how fast you're going.

Seems a little backwards since the R35 GT-R pretty much started the "supercars that do everything for you" trend. Something more analogue like an LS-swapped Miata would be better.

So is our hero going to go up against supercars instead of street cars? Makes sense, since Initial D pretty much covered the range of japanese street cars from mid 80's to early 00's, and "cheap street cars" aren't really a thing nowadays with the huge pricetags on fast cars.
If that's the case, I'd love to see the the mangaka go all-in and include supercars from makers all over the world - Mclaren, Mercedes-AMG, etc. Shit, I'll even take muscle cars like the Dodge Demon.
