>>
>>161678254
It's funny because penguindrum itself is basically the most straightforward part of the show.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a lot of what happens is left up to one's own interpretation.
Like why they got into the situation where they needed to share their blessings, how and where do the two supernaturals come from or why does "hayaku bestubusunai to" get her own penguin when the others got them from the ghost.
>>
>>161675673
I don't know but I love it. This girl is cool.
>>
The ending (COALTAR version) is one of the best anime op-ed. Godtier shugazi, godtier vocals fitting the song very well.
Rock over Japan song is top tier too, this anime has comfy songs.
>>
>>161678414
I thought it was straight-forward too. But I realize my IQ is too high for anime.
>>
I think people just get confused by Ikuhara's presentation of the story, it's actually very very simple, what you see is what you get, people say it's symbolism and what not, yes, sure they are symbolism and mean something, but what you see is what is actually happening in the world of Ikuhara's works.

Yes, Akio really goes out at night jumping to the hood of a car and doing a sexy pose, Utena did get stabbed by swords at the end, the penguins are real doing real things, unwanted children literally get the grinder, lesbian bears are real.

M8, I will grant that calling it "penguindrum" was dumb, but calling it "Destinyapplered circle" would give it away.
>>

They didn't disappear. They just removed themselves from Himari's memories.
>>
>>161679044
>Where & when exactly did the four of them got together again?

Literally running together as they talk about the apple at the end.
They live but as something supernatural.
Basically, think of the penguindrum as their own diary. The girl who has it exists in the world and stuff but she's clearly a bit above it all now.
>>
>>161679197
>They just removed themselves from Himari's memories.
Does that mean the two of them could introduce themselves again to her with a different identity so they could still be together with her? What about the stalker girl. Does she remember everything? There is this one girl too with a sickly brother. What happened to them? I know they badly need the penguindrum too.
>>
>>161679571
I don't remember whether they remember her.

I only saw two boys talking to each other. If what you are saying it true then their memories got completely overwritten so the them before is technically dead. Also, I remember that those two boys where also there at the very start.

What about? I'm confused about the 2deep4me stuff but I like the raw story. In fact, I like a continuation of this or at least a glimpse of how are all of them are doing after the events. The ending pretty much left everything to audience interpretation. If that is reason for being disappointed, I can understand that.

Utena is dismissed as "that show about fencing dykes", so people don't watch it. The primary romance in Penguindrum is straight (or non-existent, depending how you look at it), so it attracts a more mainstream audience. More people were willing to give it a chance, and more people have seen it in general.

It has a very masturbatory style of direction, similar to but not quite as excessive as what you find in some of Shinbo's, coupled with a narrative that hinges on metaphor and some foreknowledge to be interesting, you get something that people will call pretentious, even if it is fairy straightforward if you apply yourself.
>>

His purported mission was to take upon himself the sins of the world, and he claimed he could transfer to his followers spiritual power and take away their sins. He also saw dark conspiracies everywhere promulgated by Jews, Freemasons, the Dutch, the British Royal Family, and rival Japanese religions. Initially, the Japanese police reported the attack as the cult's way of hastening an apocalypse. The prosecution said that it was an attempt to bring down the government and install Asahara as the "emperor" of Japan.

Utena is a 39 episodes anime. It is composed by three 13 episodes arcs, each of which is composed by roughly 10 filler episodes that add absolutely nothing to the plot nor to the characters, and some of them are almost physically painful to watch (especially the ones revolving around Nanami, the worst female character ever conceived by a human mind), and 3 final episodes of actual plot.

>Stop deluding yourselves, making stories incoherent doesn't make them deep or complex

Creating a story requires less effort than creating that same story and managing the exposition in such a way for the pieces fit themselves together later on and for it to be on the viewer's side to put them together. How can you think that's "bad writing" when it objectively requires more effort and skill?

Honestly if one is familiar with at least of modicum of art film directors like Lynch and such, Ikuhara's stuff isn't really that hard to get. And even then he knows how to make every show he creates a fun watch.

Penguidrum is enhanced with knowing about Aum Shinrikyo, Haruki Murakami's works, and Night on the Galactic Railroad, but at the heart of it all it's a heartfelt, engaging story about family. Also my OTP becomes canon at the end, which is a plus.
>>
>>161704866
Himari x Ringo is your OTP? What about the pairing do you find appealing?

>Watching Utena is like climbing through a mountain of elephant crap and finding a 25-cent piece for your trouble.
>Utena is eye candy for the blind, and the candy has gone bad.
>Utena is 4 hours of crappy television, spread out and padded into the worst 14 hours of my life.
>Utena tries very hard to be artistic rather than entertaining. I'm sorry, but lots of poorly drawn arches =/ art OR entertainment.
>When I first found Utena, I had already heard many good things. Several people from the AniDB, as well as AnimeNFO, Anime-Planet, and Anime-Reactor had recommended it, and so I dived into the series with high hopes. However, after the first 15 episodes, Revolutionary Girl Utena had made me so angry and upset that I could not finish it. It had so inflamed me with dislike that I could scarcely talk of anything else (As the poor souls in AniDB IRC will testify to). Every other sentence out of my mouth was “Utena does this wrong!”, or “How can anyone like Utena!?”
>Well, thanks to a few kind (and very very patient souls), I received my answer. First, my thanks to Windmage, who spent nearly 5 hours explaining the aspects of Utena that he believe makes it great. Props also go out to DerIdiot, Rar, and Pelican, who put up with my Utena ramblings without banning me (too often).
>And now, on to the review.
>>
>>161705101
go back there
>>
>>161705101
>After two viewings of Utena, it remains as the worst piece of anime I ever sat through. Thanks to a horde of self-sabotage, endlessly repeated footage, music that quickly grates the nerves, characters that act either like cardboard boxes, or as if they were written without taking the basics of human nature into account, and a story that makes absolutely no sense until 33 episodes of filler have gone by.
>Disregarding the endless amount of repeated footage, the animation in Utena is bad. Very bad. The backgrounds in Utena appear washed out, and lack detail. Even though it seems that the animators did very little work on the backgrounds, there are very few used overall, resulting in washed out and low detail backgrounds being re-used over and over again. Still frames are used constantly, and are then re-used again and again in every episode of the arc they appear in. Endless panning shots of facial expressions that are difficult to read because the character’s eyes have such huge irises that many of their emotions fail to register. The amount of fluid movement that was not re-used can be counted on one hand. Character animation suffers from the kind of problems many TV series have when the budget runs low: It gets sloppy. Character’s faces will look completely different from scene to scene, with noses, chins, eyes and overall body structure noticeably out of place.

>>161705146
>(...)
>Yet another huge problem with Utena is the way in which characters interact with each other and their environment. The way the arcs are laid out, with a specific type of duel taking place during a 10 to 12 episode segment, all of the characters, though with different motivations, eventually end up doing exactly the same thing: Ending up in the arena with Utena. No character is able to escape this fate, which is one of many examples of Utena’s poor storytelling. Many of Revolutionary Girl Utena’s 39 episodes are both boring and predictable as a result.
>Characters in Utena are nearly impossible to sympathize with, resulting in the overall emotional impact of the series being comparable to “What pair of pants should I wear today?”. One of the reasons for this is how the characters react to the situations they find themselves in. Logic and common sense frequently go flying out the window.
