This has been a shitty shounen from the start though

For me it's just this last arc that's been pretty uninteresting really, the examination arc wasn't bad at all. Overkill's gang are the generic mook of the week shounen template where they're introduced, powers are hyped up, heroes overcome some kind of limiter and come to a realisation and beat them with great difficulty. Overkill himself isn't bad as a villain though and I liked the confrontation in the alley a lot.
Maybe the series jumped the shark with the AfO fight, it's definitely hard to top having the most powerful villain beaten so early and only leaves room for his escape, All Might's tragic death and subsequent Deku powerup.
This is definitely a series you mostly read for the characters though, the supporting cast is really interesting and varied. Fat Gum and Suneater are great and I've enjoyed the Kirishima stuff lately.

I'm sure this will translate better into TV as action has really benefitted other Arc's action. Along with the general pacing as this series is used to speedy arcs but this just feels like it's been dragging its feet at every encounter so far asides from Toga/Twice.
