Yes. All the themes in Zero are laid out more explicitly in Stay Night. While Zero makes idealism look purely bad Stay Night lays out its good points and bad points.

As far as story telling goes Nasu has a style that keeps building on itself. You see how Shirou ticks and sympathize with him so much you dont even realize how messed up he is until its pointed out to him. Zero most of the cards on the table from the beginning. Its still great but its not as much as accomplishment as stay night

f/sn fully explores the good and bad of heroic ideals then shows a more realistic idea of a hero.
f/zero has unrealistic edgy serial killers and is just not as good thematically
