Seriously: why do people praise this show so much, and why do its fans spite on anyone who says even a single bad word about it? It wasn't horrible by any means and it's not even a bad show, but it's no masterpiece and at the very least it was a show that had a lot of potential but squandered that potential. I was really on board with this anime from the beginning, I wanted to like it. First of all it's sketchy pastel style combined with great animation made it very pretty to look at. Second it had an incredible score. Third every episode was a breath of fresh air, they played around with a lot of unique themes.
Unfortunately I didn't understand the clusterfuck that was the last 3 episodes and honestly it worsened my opinion of the entire show by a lot. If they hadn't attempted to turn a wonderful fun fairytale into a weird family drama I would've liked it a lot more. I even rewatched the episodes and read summaries, maybe i'm dumb but i have no idea what the fuck happened in the end.

I think the problem with the show is that it's okay but nothing great, but it managed to tick the checkboxes of what hipsters like (good animation, "deep" themes, non-mainstreamness). And unfortunately, said hipsters also tend to become too dedicated with the show that even fans who say anything bad are frowned upon. I say the same thing every time this thread is made. This show when it first started was so fresh and different it revitalized my love of seasonal anime after years of picking through a real stale backlog.

Then it dropped everything that made it fun and different and shat the bed in one of the most underwhelming mercy killing endings I've ever seen. Thank god Maid Dragon, LWA and Youjo Senki were just around the corner.

I haven't watched FF yet, so I'm not trying to defend it, but here's three important things about /a/ bashing something:
1) /a/ will bash anything that tries something new. Why? Because for something to be new or different, it has to take risks and by taking risks it's more prone to failure than a show that plays safe, like almost anything Kyoani makes for example. By being more prone to failure, it's consequently more prone to criticism.

2) /a/ is contrarian, so If a lot of people make OPs praising something, you will see a lot of anons trying to shit on it with all their might.

3)It's easier to criticize than it is to defend, more importantly, by defending something you are exposing something you like and thus, making yourself more prone to attacks from others. This isn't just with anime or fiction, defending yourself always exposes you more than attacking the other person, which is why /a/ always favors attack more than defense.
