Why did Light never consider killing L with a gun and then killing all witnesses by death note? perfectly timed of obviously.

It felt like L was the only problem. Once L would be gone, Light could pull all kinds of bullshit like faking his own death or so. Or he could just kill every person who knows about him as Light and even if that doesn't work he could still get by by hiding and changing his appearance or some shit.

I think the point was that there was no way anyone would NOT be corrupted after using the Death Note for a while. It literally gives you power over life and death. You choose who lives and who dies. That sort of power is bound to inevitably corrupt anyone who's not an actual saint. I'd say Light did better than most at the start. Lesser men would have used its power to get money or revenge or all sorts of petty things. At least Light tried to use it strictly on criminals. Of course, with that sort of power though, he unsurprisingly ended up with a god complex. So yeah, there was no way Light would not be corrupted. That's the whole deal with the note.

He probably would have become second L for a while but then probably would have come to the same conclusion of becoming God after dealing with the dregs of society for himself. He probably would have stayed as a detective for as long as his father lived though out of loyalty. He may have even gotten Matsuda as a comrade when he decided to become Kira as loyalty was what kept him from agreeing with Kira in the first place.
