His big three works are so good. He's a master of characterization, quick gags, and knowing when something is getting stale.
When he was starting out in the manga world he was heavily criticized for his art being too coarse, but I think it's incredibly charming.

Hoshi no Samidare is great. It was such a fun ride and sometimes I even reread the whole thing in nearly a whole sitting.
Sengoku Youko is nice. Although some say they liked the first arc more than the second or vice-versa, I thought it was very enjoyable.
Spirit Circle, now this shit got me. I was glued to this one like flies on shit, and I'm glad I did. Even if it's considered the weakest of the three by many.

Mizukami Satoshi has done us no wrong, and is a national treasure.

The worst thing about it is that it isn't Spirit Circle.

Anyway, I read this fairly recently (like a couple days ago) and every single death after Shinonome's was really predictable. It also felt like it was dragging on and whenever there was supposed to be a sad scene the author tried way to hard to make you feel bad about the characters, so much that it kinda felt cheesy to me. It was decent at the start but later on it became kinda stale. Still, worth a read.

Shaman King almost got the brotherhood treatment this year but the creator refused because they couldn't get the old soundtrack back. It's rare but it happens. The author doesn't really know how to write dark characters, MC ends becoming a generic shonen protag and the author keeps introducing new characters who will inevitable become pale backgrounds as he runs out of ideas about how to develop them. Hoshin Engi is also getting an anime 17 years after it ended. No reason why, it just is. There was also Ushio and Tora.

It possibly due to the fact that Japanese anime industry is so afraid to tackling original anime projects they rather dig up some old series instead. Either way there definitely a trend of old series coming back as anime.
