Who's your favorite director, /a/?
Patrician choice.

Ikuhara is the sexiest!
>>161531697
Currently Yamada and Yuasa
>>161531602
This.
>>161531697
>>161532114
The Man, the Legend.
>>161532259
>Yamada
Why
>>161531171
Nice interview from Nasu about Ikuhara's works: https://wakameparadise.wordpress.com/2017/08/20/nasu-ikuhara/
>>161531171
I used to love Ikuhara, but I started to hate him when I realized that western liberals and feminists love him
>>161532712
>Nasu
who
>>161532765
congrats on being a little pussy.
This guy, I dunno if anyone here has heard of him
For me, it is the masters YAS and Tomino
>>161532712
Naisu
>>161531171
Robert Zemeckis.
>>161533108
yamada-chan!
tatsuyuki nagai also
>>161533412
I saw Yamada at a grocery store in Tokyo when I was teaching English there. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything.
She said, “Ah. You are Mother Fucker?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Nani?” but she kept cutting me off and going “Nani? Nani? Nani?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Pockys in her hands without paying.
The boy at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Madam, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When he took one of the Pockys and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told him to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After he scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting him by yawning really loudly.
>>161533412
this is like the worst kind of melodrama taste one can have, just add shinkai for the trifecta
>>161533828
Yamada used to be above melodrama garbage. Going from K-On to Koe no Katachi is totally backwards, it's a shame
>>161533978
Eh, it's more realistic and a huge step up from 'Ritsu becomes bedridden because of a spat with Mio'
Schinichiro Watanabe
Dezaki.
>>161531171
this ded fuck
>>161532765
waaaah muh sjw bogeymen
go back to /pol/ or /r9k/ if you're that afraid of women
>>161535284
They aren't even women most of the time, they're white male cucks. I'm also starting to hate Yamada because of them
>>161535396
>hating directors because of an irrelevant group of people that has no influence over anything
Where's the logic here
>>161535483
There is no logic. It's just tribal monkey behavior and I can't resist it anymore
>>161534823
This. Life is too fucking cruel.
>>161535547
at least you admit it's stupid neanderthal thinking
also ikuhara a best. no one's 1/10th as unique as he is in the industry.
>>161534627
>Astro Boy
>Ashita no Joe/2
>Lupin III
>Aim for the Ace!
>Ie Naki Ko
>The Rose of Versailles
>Space Adventure Cobra
>Oniisama e
>Black Jack
It's not even a contest. How is is possible for one man to have this many masterpieces?
>>161535396
who cares? they have literally zero influence over anime because Japan.
>>161532765
God, what a fucking faggot. If you're this far up their asses, you're too far gone and should go ahead and kill yourself.
I enjoy Yamamoto.
It's not necessary to bandwagon on this comment with YOI faggotry, by the way.
>>161536301
Fujiko Mine was good, but I haven't seen any of her other stuff.
>>161533076
Takahata > Miyazaki
I can't really argue he's better than people like Dezaki, but his shows are always tons of fun.
>>161534432
Love this bulldog faced fuck.
>>161536491
>>161536412
Nah but he's my number 2 for sure. Few come close to them.
>>161536301
I love YOI but fuck her earlier works
>>161536849
Why?
>>161536412
Grave of the Fireflies is fantastic, and Only Yesterday is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I feel like Miyazaki's filmography as a whole is better.
>>161536870
They look pretentious
Shinji Takamatsu
>>161536899
So you haven't actually seen them?
>>161536985
Of course not
>>161536849
>>161536985
Fuck off.
>>161537017
What's your problem?
>>161537011
Faggot.
>>161537011
>>161537257
Mind Game was great but overall I think I liked him better as an animator.
>>161536893
I don't think you're taking into account everything Takahata did prior to ghibli
>Anne
>Heidi
>Marco
>Horus
>Gauche
>Yamadas
>Pom Poko
>Jarinko Chie
>Only Yesterday
>Grave of the Fireflies
>Princess Kaguya
No one can compete
junichi
>>161537370
It's not like his animation style is missing at all from the things he directs though
>>161537039
Fuck her earlier works because you think they l"ook pretentious" but you'll fellate YOI because why, exactly? Oh, I know why.
Fuck off.
>>161539790
Because YOI is fun as fuck
>>161531171
Talesin Jaffe
>>161540027
literally what is this?
>>161536301
She's really awesome, MtH was god-tier
Imaishi
>>161536301
Yamamoto is an interesting director. I thought she had talent but doesn't have what it takes to be successful in the late night anime industry.
She feels too Hollywood, funnily enough I am pretty sure that her success YOI isn't really the type of show she wants to direct.
>>161531171
Probably best depiction of night Tokyo
>>161540027
>>161543444
>>161543474
who the fuck are these shitty gaijins?
>>161543615
>>161543444
this one is the director of one of the best animated movies that came from Japan in 2000-s
not fan of Ikuhara's post modern left wing BS. Though I'd watch Penguindrum
>>161543688
Tekkonkinkreet was pretty good, but I think that's mostly because Taiyo Matsumoto is an absolute genius already.
>>161543726
what really bother me is the fact that it was probably the most on-point use of 3d in anime, and nobody after came even close to it
>>161543722
>post modern left wing BS
Fuck off with your stupid off-topic politics shit.
For a less conventional choice, I've always had a soft spot for Goro Taniguchi.
>Infinite Ryvius
>s-CRY-ed
>Planetes
>GunxSword
>Code Geass / R2
>Maria the Virgin Witch
>Active Raid
>ID-0
>Bonus: Bamboo Blade, guest appearance as himself

>>161543812
but isn't it? He loves his lesbians and strong independent women
>>161531171
>>161532712
Just who is that girl in that picture?
>>161543929
Wow, imagine interpreting art as something this shallow.
>>161543971
>>161543994
What girl?
>>161544046
Deeper. Go deeper.
>>161544005
So are you saying Ikuhara doesn't try to portray well adjusted people with morals and values who aren't selfish/nihilistic. Is there any Ikuhara character you'd like to be friends/associated with in real life?
>>161543929
>strong independent women
implying this is even remotely a bad thing
>>161532712
>Nasu: To me, Kawakami-san is Utena. Before I knew much about voice actors, I worked with her just once. What I’m most grateful to Kawakami-san’s associates for is the “Utena” DVD box set and Blu-Ray box set booklets. In the DVD box set there’s a comment from Kawakami-san, and in the Blu-Ray box set there’s a comment from Kawakami-san’s mother. It’s true that we can’t meet Kawakami-san again or hear her voice, but there are still things she left behind both in concrete form and in the hearts of her fans. It really hit me that that’s what it means to create something. A creator’s work is their child. The “Utena” box sets made me realize that as long as people love your child, there’s meaning to what you’re doing.
Six years have gone by, and her death still stings like a bitch.
>>161543929
>disliking lesbians and strong independant woman
