The problem is that the drama feels generally needless. Aoba's not allowed to do the key art for her own game because? I understand in real terms why but in the case of the narrative all she learned was that she still had room to grow and that the industry treated it's people like shit. There was no pay off. It may have been saccharine but if she took the challenge and managed to convince sexy office lesbo to use her own art at the end of the episode at least something would have happened.

I disagree, that would have been so trite it's entirely meaningless. It always happens in everything.

I found what we got more interesting; she fights, does her best, loses, comes to terms with the reality that it doesn't always just work out if you work hard and do your best, moves on and gets on with the job.
