I'd agree it seems to be about 50/50 for the series as a whole, I could see this large crew mostly surviving and having a happy ending or basically all of them dying brutal deaths but I think I'll be happy to have been on the ride either way.

Ah, that would do it. The characters are the best part of the series, in my opinion, and not even necessarily the convicts. Sugimoto and the 7th division guys are really well done

This particular convict seems to like the THICC in the animal kingdom.
He's done buck deer, most latest attempt was some boars, and when we flashed-back to him talking with Tanigaki, he expressed his desire to "study" bears.

I have no idea what he's doing, but his art combined with his mastery of joke timing and seamless weaving with serious plot makes me feel we're looking a true genius. I think this guy has what it takes to be a manga legend if Golden Kamuy is any indication of future series.

I am trying to learn Japanese so I do follow a lot of raw manga I'd like to read but I've always avoided that one because I'm such a huge Golden Kamuy fan I think I would get too bummed nobody's picked it up

Group of poachers who'd been killing hunters and taking all their shit didn't realize they were trying to fuck with a living legend who slaughters bears for a living, to make the hunt more interesting he ditched his rifle and grabbed a nearby stick, tracked down two of them and beat them both to death out of pure rage. The third was in the process of getting arrested when he got his hands on him, if he'd left it at that he almost certainly wouldn't have been charged with anything but he'd already marked the man as his target and killed him in front of the officers out of sheer principle.
Out of all the convicts thus far his death is the most worthy of grief.

I'd be really interested to see just how similar to Golden Kamuy it is at all, like this series' humor, characters and violence all seems like it would be the last thing you'd expect in a hockey manga (though hockey is like the least popular manga sport ever so I don't even know what the best-known hockey manga is)
