Marley/Paradis is the events of the manga, Bertolt Reiner and Annie attack the walls and kickstart it all quite literally, Marley does it because they want Paradis' natural resources + the Coordinate, the power of the original founding Titan which can control other Titans/Eldians. The Coordinate and another Titan rests in Eren, which is why they desperately attempt to kidnap him.

Everyone seems to be divided into the "Annie is already dead or she will be eaten" and "Annie is alive and she will get a happy ending" camps.

Annie was a total mistake. Isayama always had problems at balancing how strong and how many Titans the antagonists of the story would have. I'm pretty sure his original idea was two, the Colossal and the Armored Titan. But he came to another problem. A 2 man cell wouldn't be enough to do or cover everything he planned of them, represent a thread to the MC, break the walls, infiltrate the MP and retrieve the Founding Titan. Just think it like this, they planned to retrieve the shifter, not the power alone. Wouldn't be it easier to just eat Eren or the King? If you were going to hold hostage a shifter, you would need to take care by removing his limbs and look at him on a turn basis. You need at least 3 people for this. That's why the 3 Shifter strategy sounds better, a armored Titan that can take hits, a big ass Titan that can creat distraction and very destructive and a small as Titan than is very fast to quickly retrieve objectives or escape. Then why go with 4 Titans? Massive fuck up. Just look at Annie, literally her only power is to have boobs and attract Titans. Clearly filler Titan. But as the story develops Isayama quickly understand giving them 4 Titans was a big mistake, so he decides to nerf them a bit, creating another random ass character with no real motive, Ymir. Isayama knew the better way to make them connect with the audience was to make her woman. He even understood a girl would had by default a seductive option, who could be used against the MC to create empathy or to retrieve the King Titan. Another big mistake as you see there are many faggots that love her. And lastly but the worst mistake Isayama could make, put her character on statsis. If she survives it would be boring and put so many character out of place just to pardon her. If she dies, it would also be boring, just kept her for 4 years to be eaten. s you can see, Annie is a mistake to SnK.
