I am always a bit lenient with unusual shows. There are often series that look weak at the beginning and get better as the story progresses.
The only series I drop pretty quickly are the generic ones. I think I've seen enough of them to recognize the warning signs of a bad or boring series in the first episode.

Not necessarily. Anime is a different medium and it's usually just otaku who buy these expensive BDs, so niche series barely ever sell, especially not when the pairings, MCs or designs aren't the stuff otaku usually like.
There are many faithful anime adaptions that sold really badly while the manga were popular, like Monster for example.

We rarely get superpower shows where people so blatantly game the system, I love it. A shame it's not a more popular type of story.
