I don't remember any debt sharking, usury, or bolshevik subversion of the social studies in tatami galaxy.

I swear like 90% of that scene happened in real life for me, including the part where nothing happened and the guy ran away for some bullshit reason

my best friends are on the internet, I've known them for years, and I'm just as close to them as I was to irl friends as a teenager. I voice chat and watch stuff with them every day. maybe your standards are just too low and you stick to messaging and forums?
>>
>Joining college clubs
Only a minority do that were I live, and they are either sports clubs or related to classes/research. There's no campus either.
>>
>>161445165
I get the feeling your standards are actually lower than mine in this scenario. As I said: Internet friends are too easy. They don't mean anything.
>>
>>161445238
if you think internet friends are "easy" and "meaningless", that's why you don't have any. I spend every day talking in voice chat with people that know me better than my own family, and from personal experience I am as close to these people as the friends I had as a teenager growing up, people I spent all day every day with for months at a time. what is this magical force that makes in-person relationships "meaningful" compared to online? being able to smell them? having to spend an hour in transit to hang out? there is no logic here.

What most people complaining about loneliness here are actually looking for are meaningful real life friendships but with someone that they can share the same types of discussion and hobbies that they have on /a/. Except it goes without saying they don't want the person to be the stereotype that comes with those attributes, such as a disgusting manchild with a neckbeard that is socially inept. They also don't want to put any effort of their own forward to improving themselves or finding these types of people. Not that you can blame them, the type of person that they want as a friend is on /a/ but they'll be redirected to /soc/ if they want companionship. You're welcome to claim otherwise but wait until September rolls around and eventually December; you'll see these types posting with more frequency because those sorts of posts are more tolerated around then. Internet friends can only do so much for you and it's much easier for them to up and disappear at the drop of a hat.

>>
>>161446623
I've never made a friend on /a/, but friends I've made through other means post on /a/. not suggesting to people that they should, just pointing out the fact that there are lots of people that live on the internet that are easy to communicate with and open for friendship. when someone thinks they have "failed" at making friends while they live on the internet, it just seems like someone who hasn't even put their pole in the water is complaining about a lack of fish.

someone who thinks only of what their friends can do for them isn't a good friend, and someone who disappears at the drop of a hat isn't a good friend either, nor is that really exclusive to the internet in any way.
>>
>>161446389

As a student-teacher who has broken more friendships than I tried making them in uni, I can only say that it is better to just make-up with past friends from high school and hope you can restart anew. You're bound to have to be friendly with everyone in your workplace and public life, but you do need at least 2 physical friends to actually share time with.
>>
>>161446623
That's because you can't make friends with people by fucking talking over the internet. You have to experience or do shit together in real life or video games or whatever. That interaction is what creates long lasting bonds. Then you have to constantly refresh them or risk drifting away -- what I'm trying to say is human interaction is a pain in the arse.

>>161446071

>>
>>161449727
Well no shit. But that's what makes them worthwhile.
>>
It's mediocre. The art is the best thing it has going for it.
>>
>>161449727
your own example defeats your argument, you can play video games together with people on the internet. or watch things together. in fact these are the main two things that me and my internet friends do together, and that people in extended groups do with their internet friends. with these activities that give us an excuse to hang out, just like people do in person, we form friendships and bonds that extend to talking or helping each other out, just like in person. not sure why this concept is so difficult. I think you guys aren't using voice/video communication, aren't actually doing anything with people you're trying to make friends with(proven by you thinking video games are somehow impossible to play with people over the internet), or aren't even trying to make friends in the first place.

like just visualizing the thousands of people that make up 4chan's subcommunities that I've met over the last decade and all of their circlejerks and friendgroups, it's as though you're trying to tell me that there's no such thing as sand when I'm standing in a desert. hell, there are generals on this very board that contradict your claim that "you can't make friends with people by talking over the internet." some of those madokafags have been parroting each others retarded crap for years now.
>>
>>161449965
I dunno, I guess I'm just not good at keeping or making friendships proactively. I've had chances, sure, with people whose tastes and personalities aligned with my own against almost impossible odds but I never felt the urge to bridge the gap with them or even keep talking with them over the internet. Even over video games and voice chat.

It's almost second nature for me to favour those in my life who happen to have been acquainted with me through pure chance, despite our personalities and opinions being so different, just because of the strength of shared experience.

Jeez, I started blogging again before I realised it.
>>
>>161449965
It's not really real though. Many of my supposed Internet friendships of seven years ended in about the space of a few weeks when I got kicked out of a community because someone more popular got pissed I told them to fuck off and made a concerted effort to get me removed.
>>
>>161450068
That happens in real life, too.
>>
>>161444942
>triggered
I don't think 4chan is the place for you.

>>161449965
>>161450058

Agreeing with the former argument about making friends. Talking and playing games with people online is a good way to nip loneliness in the bud. There are certain queues you miss by not meeting face to face though but making online friends helps take the edge off, plus, if you get to know them well enough, you have the option of meeting up in the future.

Even as autistic as I am, I've managed to meet several people this way and the result is that it does boost your confidence, plus it's a good way to make fast friends.
>>
>>161450068
you think the internet is fake? you think interactions here lie elsewhere than the umbrella of "reality"? every time you're interacting with a digital device you are somehow throwing thousands of years of metaphysics down the toilet and breaking the barrier between sincerity and falsehood?

watching anime with someone online is the same as watching anime with someone on a couch, minus transit/shared resources/forced interaction/being able to smell and touch them. some see it as superior to in person friendship for reasons like this.

don't blame others for your failures. either you're getting banned from everywhere because you're an asshole, or the communities are garbage and it's silly to be looking for friends in such circlejerks. blaming things other than yourself for any problems you have is exactly how you find a way to not feel pressured about fixing your problems.

Watch Tatami Galaxy then realize that life is what you make it and that if wish you had more 'true' friends then you have to put in the effort. There is no "lifelong" friend that will just happen for you. The 'rose-colored campus life' doesn't exist. Thats the point of the anime.

The cunts on real lives of beverly hills or whatever that thrash is are the embodiment of bourgeoisie for their age and sex. A snooty scrawny slightly above average pseud going into medical school, law school, and the like, while 'scorin' babes WEW', wasting money, gliding by through classes, and overall trying to live the 'college life', is the embodiment of the bourgeoisie for his age and sex. For females of the same age, its studying psychology, sociology, or English and having strong yet predictable political opinions and a LOT of gay friends.

/a/ stand for anime, and overwhelmingly the board is anime related discussion. Occasionally people veer off and discuss something else within an anime related thread, and tolerance of this is what makes /a/ a community instead of a spreadsheet of title and character opinions. This thread for example is one of the more amusing threads in the catalog and projects /a/'s culture on a couple of topics. If threads were deleted based off of the content of replies, you would see some threads on seasonals and some bait opinion threads. Even classics like asuka vs rei or sakurafish would be deleted under such a mindset. It is fortunate that there is a culture to be expressed on this board, much of the website suffers from high turnover or skeletal communities.

>blog

Sorry that these types of subjects are too complex for you to understand, try rewatching it when you graduate highschool. Til then I'll see you on /bestgirl/

>>161445557

Every single highschool in anime features the prominence of club activities, sense of community and hobby is definitely stronger in Japan. But I don't think any of the clubs in Tatami Galaxy were that great though, I thought the point was he was starting to realize that the "rosey" bits die off in college. He was trying hard enough, but he wasn't in the right mindset. In high school clubs are amazing because HS is pretty much losing your social virginity, there's so many 'first times' which are fun. In college if you're social life is great you have a drinking problem. Clubs in college are for finding a girl/guy that will tolerate you enough to make the pain and misery of learning more enjoyable. If 'rosey' is good, then life gets worse and worse with age - but that's what makes these relationships more and more valuable. Which was the theme of the show.

Luckily I was able to make some "lifelong" friends in college (In quotes because I graduated recently so who really knows), but I did have some times where I would just not leave my room and interact with people, yet still feel as if I was missing out on fundamental college experiences. Tatami Galaxy captures this incredibly well.
I think a political episode of Tatami would've been funny and somewhat true even to Japanese experience. (they've had serious campus protests in their past) So many guys get involved with politics just to get laid, or at least for reasons other than actual personal conviction. You could have the guy who ran the film club run a political club thing.
I'm kinda glad because campus politics is incredibly annoying, especially if you find yourself in the middle of some firestorm having to take sides.
>>

It's true, but take condolences in that the people I meet personally who like anime are either redditor normalfag who seem to love it but have seen three anime or Tumblr/redditor sort of weirdo who has seen more but is entirely unrelatable and neckbeard like you say.

The funny part is all the ones I meet and visit /a/ are actually the most socially skilled for some reason, one basically a Chad who also visits /fit/ and is very relatable and some others usually just regular sort or nerdy guys, and once again easy to talk to.

The point is here if you can actually find Anon then they are usually not the neckbeard stereotype and the neckbeard you see in the University Anime Club is usually not Anon. Anon of course hide their power level but with enough power level yourself you can tell if one is anon with some casual leading "trick" questions.

All my friends were commuters. I don't know how someone can live on campus and not walk away having a good time, it's like you're on easy mode because you're so CLOSE to everything. I could have joined more clubs, but the buses barely worked after 7 pm.
>>
>>161458337
It really is easy mode. The autists who can't make friends while living on campus are actively trying to not make friends. Even then, I had a friend who put up the "I'm not interested in ordinary humans" thing from Haruhi on his door, and he still wasn't a loner.

The hard part is actually finding them though. You might have the good fortune to find these sorts of people and get a chance to interact but the majority of anons are not going to make that conscious effort with other people on the small chance they might simply be hiding their power level. Consider that many don't have the opportunities, like college/university or work, to actually meet other people. The entire NEET thing isn't a meme, even if it's less prevalent here in recent years. Also, I can tell you with personal experience that a number of them do fit that stereotype unfortunately. Not everyone looks like your average person that's hiding their power level, many actually are the socially inept and unhygienic individuals that are made fun of.

I had internet friends of 7 years or so, same situation where we used voice chat and played games/watching anime together all day and after their real lives got busy (work, relationships, etc.), they practically disappeared. Don't expect internet friends to always be there for you. The difference with in-person relationships is that there's more of an obligation, as well as a wider network of people, to keep in contact and the likelihood that you'll be in the same geographic location means they won't be able to disappear without any way to find them.
>>
>>161459877
>The hard part is actually finding them though.
The era of Madoka showings was truly a golden age for meeting anons as it was the perfect excuse for anons to coordinate IRL meetups in a time when the mods were willing to tolerate those threads and not deleting them on sight. Even to this day so many years later our local /a/ group is huge and still going strong, and all of us have formed some genuine friendships.

I don't get why people romanticize college/university so much when its arguably the time you learn the least and bust your ass memorizing and regurgitating information just to get a shitty piece of paper that barely even means anything anymore. Sure, it's a fun experience compared to highschool, but it's also the same time when you realize your efforts are more or less fruitless and quickly learn networking and problem solving trump them all. I'm sure I'll get a bunch of autistic STEM majors will come rushing to this post telling me I'm wrong and how they've got a portfolio so sick it'll give me polio, but that barely even fucking matters if you're a sperg who can barely hold it together through an interview. Meritocracy is fucking dead. Respec your skill tree and but all your points into Speech and Charisma or you're dead, kiddo.

People romanticize college/university because if you aren't a complete autist who is incapable of socializing, it's the prime time to find people that share your hobbies and do fucking whatever together since you're now adults, whereas in high school, you're mostly restricted to those in your class and unless you're doing it illegally or in your last year, you can't do things like going drinking with others or driving depending on your country's laws. No shit that the actual purpose of the institution is fucked but that's obviously not what any anime is focused on.

Iktf. Recently changed over from comp sci to digital media and juggling eight different projects a semester is nuts. Pretty fun for me though since I'm usually the leader and enjoy bossing people around and being a belligerent nigger for the sake of it. Weird how you'd expect people to be more social once they're in uni, but I've come to realize people in my age group are as spergy as the average /a/non when it's down to basic conversation. I honestly think like I'm one of the more socially competent people in my class even though I was a loner most of my life and only really started becoming more outgoing in highschool. Hell, I was borderline autistic until I just one day went "okay i'm bored lets go meme on kids" and things just went from there.

>>
>>161462517

That's kinda bullshit, highschool was better for socializing and hanging out. In college I'm taking classes with people who want the same career as me, but that doesn't mean they have the same interests. But in high school I could take more interest-oriented classes like shop to meet people, and I wouldn't have to pay for it. And in high school nobody had to organize free time among their adult responsibilities. We just got out of school then hung out until we had to go home. Sure we weren't drinking or going on road trips, but we spent more time together overall because work and shit didn't get in the way.

And I'm no autist. I was a social god in high school, but I've never been able to form as good of a connection with college classmates or coworkers as I did with my high school friends. Probably because everyone is more concerned with their own adult lives. For an example, last semester I tried going shooting with some classmates, but in over a month we three couldn't get a time that we were all good to go. But in high school if my buddies and I wanted to shoot we would just do it whenever.

Bullshit, if you have experience in your field (working as a student/research assistant or internships for example are good opportunities for this) and a usefull degree with good grades social skills don't matter that much. STEMfag here. You're close but off the mark.
Doesn't matter how much shit you learn, if you're a total sperg autist that people hate being around.
The companies you apply to get hundreds of applications for the same position.
Imagine all of them not being spergs and you get a good picture of your competition.

College isn't about learning a trade or skill. It's about developing a knack for thinking about a problem and solving it, as well as developing a discipline to learn new fields of study without help.
A lot of people will complain about professors not really teaching, but you're supposed to have come into the class already knowing 80% of the material.

While I miss the social aspect of classes I've replaced that with less forced-friendship and camaraderie. From what I've heard about in Japan too it seems like once you get into college you get to slack off and do jack shit. Then once you graduate you get sent to commit karoshi.

Being able to come home and not obsess about shit that's due alone makes the non-college life far more relaxing.

Just because you're supposed to doesn't mean it's not lazy as fuck from their part. They're being paid for a supposed role of ""teaching"" and yet you do 80% of the learning.

Then no matter how shitty the classes are they can always justify them with some vague and unfalsifiable "you're learning how to learn" lines or failing that tempt you with "le college campus life", two of the ways they keep folks bluepilled so that they pay a middleman to learn for themselves.

I've seen '71 lupin III. sure it's ahead of it's time but the comedy and themes are basically fossils they're so dated. not going to keep watching something when it's boring. I doubt an action shounen OVA series is enough to redeem a list of barely above average crap like juuni kokuki and eve no jikan.

calm down, your watch list is fine for normies, you don't have to change it. I'm just surprised at how consistently barely above average it is but not terrible or great.
>>
>>161478767
No, he has to change it. He needs to weed out the normies.
>>
>>161478767
>action shounen OVA series
Go watch Giant Robo instead of being a nigger already.
>>
>>161478812
in that case put on moetan day one.
>>
>>161478821
it's been on my log for ages. low priority, stuff with old hags and boys and no comedy is almost always bad. I'll give you my opinion if the thread is still up in a few years when I eventually get to it.
>>
>>161478903
Old anime is never 'good' you just watch it because it's old
>>
>>161478927
If it's not good then you shouldn't watch it.
>>
>>161478954
Then you should never watch old anime.
>>
>>161478990
No. If I followed that rule I wouldn't be able to watch any anime.
>>
>>161479024
Just because you don't find modern anime good doesn't mean they're not objectively better than old anime. But maybe it's some sort of sunk-cost fallacy
>>
>>161479056
No, I meant my earlier post where I said that if something wasn't good I shouldn't watch it. But generally I find the classics to be of little value outside of their historical significance and more modern series are much more entertaining
>>
>>161479139
I just think that old anime have shit directing if anything that's my main issue with enjoying them. Also older anime was more meant for children whereas now you have anime aimed at adults and teens as-well.
>>
>>161478927
what? there's tons of great older stuff. giant robo isn't even that old.
>>
>>161479184
>older anime was more meant for children
How is that even close to the case? Anime was more of a enthusiast thing on the animator side back then whereas it's a business thing now. If anything, anime is more targeted at impressionable kids and teens because they'll get their parents to sink money into it.
>>
>>161479184
most of the good older stuff isn't on television, the 80s OVA boom produced a lot of high quality material. some of my favorite stuff came out of that.
>>
>>161479257
Anime was always intended for children. Children of all ages.
>>
>>161479257
not him but televised anime used to be mainly focused on children, anime in general didn't really get much of an adult market until video rental in the 80s allowed the OVA boom to happen. this market didn't shift into television until the late 90s after evangelion happened. before evangelion, televised anime was largely or fully focused on child audiences.
>>
>>161479257
Enthusiasm or passion alone isn't enough to write a coherent story. One also needs talent
>>
>>161479300
Evangelion was a show for children though.
>>
>>161479327
teens are not children anon
>>
>>161479341
They're worse, they're children with drivers licenses.
>>
>>161479375
Old people have driver's licenses too. It's one scary world out there.
>>
>>161479327
regardless of it's intentions, it became the most commercially successful single series of the medium and most of this market was adult men. on top of that, the funding was cut specifically because it wasn't child-friendly enough for it's time slot. if it was for children, it failed, and accidentally busted the door open for adult oriented television in the process, because a couple decades of that is what followed.

Speaking on meetups, remember back in 2012 when there was alot meetup threads?

College was the loneliest time of my entire life. Clubs are a meme that meet once a week for an hour, not exactly friend making material. Post college life has been so much better. Don't fall for the college is the best time of your life meme.
>>
>>161482963
You sure convinced me...
>>
>>161482979
Thankfully I'm not kidding. I was legit going to kill myself when I started my job after college, but I made friends with all my coworkers fairly quickly. I can't really explain how this happened.
>>
>>161482963
Not to mention, any 'light-knit' campus will have jack all for clubs.
>>
>>161483020
Sounds to me like you just didn't try hard enough

ive got a semester left of my studies; didnt do any club shit but just made a lot of shallow friendships with classmates.
did i fugg up
>>
>>161482963
Clubs, and anime clubs in particular, are full of antisocial faggots who will absolutely not just come up to you and start a conversation.
Like the anime says, you need to actually try something to get what you want.
Just like how a prince on a white horse will never appear, a princess trapped in a tower will also never appear.
If you care to get to know the people in your club better, it is up to you to get to know them and arrange meetups at different times of the day. Contact comes before friendship.

It left out the part where you're a hikki in spirit but still have the sense of pride and responsibility to attend all your lectures then fall behind and fail anyway because your inability to get close to people has crushed you before you even noticed and you couldn't keep it up anymore
>>
>>161483220
>made a lot of shallow friendships
Once again, antisocial faggots. Trying to breach the wall of ``business relationship'' that you have with your classmates requires real charisma.
Most actual friends I've ever had have minimal coursework intersection with me. The lack of perceived ulterior motives helps.

i still dont understand tho. Why do you faggots need "friends" anyway? They are pretty much an additional baggage in your life that you need to court always. I never had any meaningful relationships in my college days but I felt free from any responsibility. I just want to avoid hurting anyone's feelings if I ever would fuck up. This is probably why I want everyone else to fuck off from me. Its better this way 2bh

More like you gave up on trying because you can't handle fucking up

i dunno really. I am in a university where im one ot the 5 only males in my course batch with 50+ grills. I fucking failed to make my own harem and its so depressing

You also failed your junior-high English class.

>>161445018
Not if you're socially retarded like me.
>>161483627
Even from an anti-social perspective, two people have two lives worth of experience, resources, and connections compared to a single person's. Additionally, I doubt that anyone here would pass up an unconditional friendship where the person met on your terms and had shared interests. Problem is that a lot anons have been burned by their inherent autismo nature and adopt a once bit, twice shy mentality, making any excuse to avoid opening up. Or maybe I'm projecting who fucking knows.
