I was 14 when I watched it the first time because some old ass dude told me it is the best anime existing. it was around the time where the 2nd movie was going to be released or was already out- not sure about that. So it must be around 2009.
I don't have a favorite episode because each one of them is unique in their own way. I also consider NGE as one piece of art, and not the episodic bullshit that's getting released every season now.
Favorite moment is probably when Asuka moves in to Misatos flat. I know ts kind of a weird moment but hear me out. It's one of the biggest turning points in the anime and probably has the most effect to character development. The anime really starts to get rolling and characters become more alive and feel way more real.
Best girl is Asuka.

Episode 1 left the strongest impression, so I'll go with that.

Shinji deciding to pilot Eva 1 again after speaking to Kaji, Shinji holding Rei after she falls out of her hospital bed and decides to pilot Eva 1 is great as well.
As you can imagine I like the moments when Shinji fights for those he cares about despite his instincts to run away.

I'm not sure if I have a favorite episode, I have favorite scenes that are spread out through the series. My favorite scene in the entire show is Unit-3/Bardiel superimposed over the blood red sunset, pic related.
Favorite moment is either the very first berserker sequence in episode 2 or the evas catching Sahaquiel in episode 12.
