Well, I'm no longer hyped for anything, I'll just keep watching to see Nanachi and probably drop it from there. I really wanted to see that fight and there was literally nothing to see. The previous episode at least had some music to give the sense of dread. And the lighting is completely off everywhere, absolutely zero effort.

As a plus, I liked how Ozen's VA was speaking closer to normal in the flashback.

The biggest flaw with the adaptation is in the storyboarding. The paneling in the manga is one of its biggest strengths. It handles dramatic confrontations between characters extremely well just in how it structures perspective, panel composition and so on.
The adaptation is telling the same story, but doesn't carry over any of that strength in how the story is presented.

Production values are also a fault but that's just a reality of anime production. I wish they could've been more consistent with the visuals considering the source material is so visually-oriented but there's only so much you can ask from tv anime production. The ugly photoshop filter they plaster over the monsters bothers the hell out of me, though

Ozen was pretty poorly adapted, but looking at the last 5 or so minutes of the episode you can tell it's just not the studio's strength; the environment visuals are still consistently brilliant.
It's a damn shame that just turning down the brightness and changing the music would solve half the problems with the fight. That and giving Ozen her fucking grin.
Her VA even demonstrated that she can pull the Ozen voice without hamming it up to fuck, so it's a surprise they didn't just go with that.

I'm oddly hyped for the survival montage now because the potential for them to fuck it up is so low, and we won't have to keep nitpicking shit out of an otherwise great adaptation.

While I can understand people criticising the scene, the important thing is not the fights but the atmosphere, storytelling and backgrounds in my opinion. Still, I hope they do the Bonedrewd fight fluid and exciting since it's such a major fight.

I do think it's silly to get angry about it. Criticism is justified but it's not a key element nor that important to the story so I don't really think it's worth getting upset about. Just disappointed.

I don't think you even read what I just said. There's a huge amount of still shots, where everyone suddenly don't do even the slightest of movements. The fight couldn't have more action, it has the same amount as the manga did. But the anime had no movement at all for the most part of the fight, which the manga has no fault of because a manga is made out of still shots, and an anime is supposed to bring to life those moments. If we had still shots most of the time a character is talking like manga does, there would be almost no animation. There's no excuse for not giving the characters more movement, that doesn't mean they had to add more action or make the fight any longer/shorter.

Not worried about the tama encounter, it's pretty straightforward and there isn't that much gore when Riko first gets stabbed anyway.

The subsequent ascending into the curse, Riko bleeding out of her eyes and her hand swelling, as well as reg breaking and attempting to cut off Riko's arm, I'm more worried about. I mean, we've seen that they're able to show blood, but I really just don't know whether they'll try to use different camera angles to soften the horrifying nature of those scenes, which in the manga, were drawn pretty bare and straight on.

I can only hope the studio will man up and show what we need to see when the time comes, because if they try to dance around the gore, that scene will lose heaps of impact.

The episode was perfectly fine, fuck off.
Could it have been better? Yes, we could have character animation like in the first three episodes, which were way out of the norm for TV anime and absolutely ridiculous, but that doesn't change the fact that this was still very well done. The problem is everyone is always going to compare everything that comes afterwards to the first three episodes which were pretty much on the level you'd expect from a very good movie. It was obvious from the start there was no way they could have that kind of animation and attention to detail all the way through.

This is becoming my dissapointment of the season. Made in Abyss might have one of the best first episode ever, it was simply fantastic, the visuals, the OST, the setting, the premise, you name it, everything was perfect, but from episode 3 onwards everything been going downhill, pun intended.
So far its been something like this.
Episode 1: Simply perfect.
Episode 2: Necessary worldbuilding, introducing all the characters, simply amazing.
Episode 3: More worldbuilding, very interesting and the adventure finally starts, FUCK YEAH!
Episode 4: ...so, what happened with the visuals and the OST? They really spend 20 minutes running in a hanna barbera background? Reg penis, very funny, well it doesn't matter, episode 5 will be awesome...
Episode 5: ...so, yeah Riko dying in a dream sequence, very deep, where are the visuals and the OST??? Well they are finally in the seeker camp.
Episode 6: I assume that something is about to happen but nothing have happened in the last 3 episodes and I have lost any interest in the story or the characters at this point.

Will watch episode 7 once i'm back home but i'm not excited anymore, I really hope you guys are memeing and it's actually an amazing episode.

They're really failing at this. All the choices are just not good.

I think that the episode would have been better with a few changes:
-Don´t making Ouzen´s mouth move when she is in void mode.
-Making her mouth shine when she is using her outfit.

I really like the ost and the way she talks, but with a slighly better animation in the important parts of the fight (that doesn´t even last more than a second) and what I said above I think the people could have enjoyed it more.

The staff is absolutely ridiculous, they quite literally picked the best of the best including background artists from the old Ghibli and people like Osamu Masuyama and Yoshinari Kou.
It definitely showed in the first couple episodes, but expecting that kind of quality all the way through would be ridiculous for a weekly TV production, there's simply not enough time in the day for that.

If I had to hazard a guess as to why they did they, they probably didn't want to take half of the episode to focus on something that doesn't directly involve the two main characters and they want to set up the survival training so that they can dedicate the next episode to it. Next episode will probably be the survival training intercut with the flashbacks in order to highlight Riko and Regs struggle with the struggle of Lyza and Ozen delving for the bell and bringing Riko out of the Abyss.

It's not faithful to the mange but I think it makes sense.

I'm pretty sure it has always been translated as "Aubade" when オーバード is said aloud and as "supreme treasure of the netherworld" when "奈落の至宝" is said. Way back in episode 2, Shiggy explains that Aubade = supreme treasure of the netherworld.

That's what I was thinking, it could actually work really well if they do it right. I get that people are pissed because the anime didn't stay faithful to the manga, but spending the rest of the episode on a flashback about Ozen and Lyza's relationship after what was supposed to a tense and suspenseful fight would completely break the tone of the episode. People need to understand that anime and manga are different formats and have different considerations when it comes to composition. Not saying that this was definitely the right decision, they could still screw it up royally, but it's totally understandable, and people are just hurt because they really like that sequence in the mange, which is also understandable.

I feel like splitting up the flashback and dumping the latter half before they enter the 3rd layer kills some of the impact of it. Particularly with regards to Ozen's characterization and her loathing towards Torka and Riko for taking Lyza away from her.
