It's quite strange. There's a 6 episode OVA and a TV sequel that I've yet to watch.
The OVA starts off very haphazardly and the tone and purpose of the show is unclear (Is it a comedy or something more serious?). But eventually it all starts to make sense, and there's really a lot to like about it. Worth noting it has great music from the Little Witch and Tatami Galaxy composer.

Read Negima, then read the currently serialized sequel UQ Holder if you're so inclined.

Both Negima anime are awful and should be avoided. The first is just god awful all around, the second is better but neither follow the manga at all so they shouldn't exist to begin with. The only worthwhile animated Negima material are the Ala Alba OVAs. The movie is not worth watching either.

UQ Holder is getting animated in the fall but I wouldn't count on it being any better than mediocre. The good news is that they would have to actively try to make it as bad or worse than the two Negima anime that already exist.

25-50 episodes stories. So many shows never go nowhere because they were conceived as 12 episodes tales even when the setting and premise would easily be a kickass 50 episode show.

The reason the adaptions of Negima are so infamous is probably because it seems like they went out of their way to avoid actually adapting the manga for seemingly no reason. It would have been fine if they stuck to the script but they just didn't. And so because neither of the anime were good enough to get past the preliminary haremshit, the more interesting material almost never gets addressed. The only ones that come close are the two Ala Alba OVAs and they cheat by starting in the middle of the series. And even then they only show a bit of it.

The movie starts out following the manga but decides to go off of the rails very, very quickly. Again, for no reason. It really does seem like a curse.

I know where you're coming from, and you're right in theory,
but in praxis those 52 episode Anime almost always ended up with pointless filler arcs that didn't go anywhere.
I remember a lot of shows that would have really benefitted from world building and (good) filler,
yet all the filler eps were fucking cliched and boring as fuck and usually ended with some villain of the week fight that was over no sooner than it had begun.

Manga is entirely different up to a point, Story goes from a publisher forced shit harem romance, that gets thrown away for a magical battle harem on the par of DBZ, with an actual plot thats been there surprisingly since the beginning. interesting characters pushed to the background, insufferable characters brought to the front. many arcs based off of misunderstandings, kind of sucks the suspense out of things. the best episode is like 11 or 12 on that samurai dude's history and then there are thirty more episodes of a bunch of women being emotional and making bad decisions. it had some interesting and intricate worldbuilding, but other than that watching it overall felt like dealing with a woman on her period.
