>oh no if you use that attack anymore your lifespan wi-
>characters uses it over and over, nothing ever happens not even in the epilogue
At this point it's more of a meme on /a/ than in anime. Let it rest.

A lot of the tropes in these greentext threads are.

Am I misreading something here? How does that relate to the cliche in question?

His lifespan drains away a lot quicker when in emperor time.

I think only Yuuki Yuuna really ever addressed the subject seriously.

That's 87600 seconds just to reduce your lifespan by 10 years.
That's about 24 hours.
If you use this ability in a non-retarded fashion, the likelihood of its drawback coming up within the story's time frame are nil.

No, it does not. You are still losing life-time. Just invisibly to the reader.

>No, it does not. You are still losing life-time.

>oh no a kid fell down a tree
>better go back in time and prevent it from happening
>oh no the classroom vase is broken
>better go back in time and prevent it from happening
>oh no my retarded childhood friend got a horrible haircut
>better go back in time and prevent it from happening
He had it coming
Only remember seeing this in Dragonball really, where Roshi did die immediately after using the technique.

Yeah, it was naive to overuse the power and assume there are no negative side effects. Though it's cool how this manga plays on the time reset idea and explore what flooding your earlier body with new memories could do where other series usually just has the character use time reset all he wants and it's just magically fine.
I also love it how you actually see the process of him being internally damaged before his impending death. It pretty much shits on all those other shounen scenes where the hero overuses some RROD and it's painful for the time but afterward, it's over and they're fine. Because you see the consequences in Saike, sure, he proceeded with determination to save his friends in the dreamland arc but gets inflicted with amnesia afterward.

I don't think this was really a case of the character overusing some lifespan draining skill. He just got outsmarted and Ryuk got bored and killed him.
