Because's the manga's pacing is abysmal, and it feels like things are just happening for no reason with no explanation constantly. It's to the point that the anime has to change the order of events and add stuff from side stories and later happenings to make it cohesive, which really improves the viewing experience.

It's a common mental illness on 4chan to mistake one's own hatred of a work's fanbase for hatred of the work itself.

Just take a look at any of the regularly scheduled SnK threads to find out why the people that like it are so annoying. However, the manga itself is pretty good. It suffers from the usual problems of long-running series such as focus on pointless aspects of the world building in order to bolster the rest of the story that matters, as well as uninteresting arcs in general. However, I'd say that it does a pretty good job of handling the "scope-widening big twist" that many works of the same genre tend to mess up on. It was pretty much what readers expected from foreshadowing and previously dropped hints, but still managed to be interesting and gave room for much more plot potential. Also it actually picks up and explains most loose ends so far pretty competently. Usually most manga that go on for so long and have lingering mystery elements tend to drop the ball and leave them as pure plot holes and simply have uninteresting resolutions.

I love the manga too and I think it's great, it's just the classic contrarians hating something popular in a desperate attempt to stand out, pay no heed to their autism.

SnK isn't perfect, of course, but what SnK is is a lot more interesting than what many internet commentators think SnK should have been.

The beginning of AoT is its forte.
Its very brutal and all those characters are dying.
Gets you hooked, bit like GoT.
Even my normie flatmate started watching and gens not watching / reading any other anime / manga.

Then the tone changes a lot and you have to be very into it to follow all the plot points with all the families, countries and shit.
