This falls under the 'Thinks Pucci was a mindless DIO servant' category. While Pucci respected and cared for DIO deeply, DIO's feelings for Pucci were ultimately stronger than the reverse. Pucci cared about DIO because of what DIO offered him - friendship and the idea that his sisters death was never his fault, granting him peace of mind. He also wasn't afraid to challenge DIO or tell him no, which is part of why DIO respected him the way he did.

I imagine the hate for Giorno stems from the expectation of a protagonist to drive the part. Where as it just felt like Giorno was along for the ride most of the time. In part 4 Josuke was a driving force with a SUPPORTING cast. By himself he was interesting and then got more interesting with people. Part 6 we have Jolyne who also is a dynamic character and interacts with the people around her in entertaining ways. Giorno by comparison is very flat and the part is carried by the rest of the gang and their fun personalities and interactions.

People expected Giorno to be good, particularly considering how ambitious and arrogant his father was you'd expect maybe just a little bit of that to show, or perhaps a colder exterior like Jotaro or Johnny from his conditions growing up. The passionate hate comes from expectations being betrayed.

I think that sums it up. People expected Giorno to be Joseph from his first actions, but Araki went a different way. I don't understand why just don't enjoy the character for what he is, but I see where people are coming from

Right from the start, DIO was established to have an intimate connection to the Joestars. The same arrow awakened all of their stands, and caused Holly's illness, which is of course the reason for their journey. They have the ability to psychically sense each others presence. The first stand DIO is shown using is Hermit Puple, Joseph's stand, to spy on them, which they sense. 'Same type of stand' had already happened once between DIO and a Joestar, and D'arby brothers also showed the possibility of relatives sharing abilities, with the two of them sharing the soul-stealing power.

There's also the narrative about DIO and The World that all point to him being due for getting smacked down - right from the start, DIO brags about how his power is his alone and puts him above all else. He was clearly being set up for humiliation and being brought unceremoniously down to earth, and learning that he wasn't special or unique was an essential part of that where it wouldn't have been if a stand with an unrelated ability had beaten him. Plus, Star Platinum and The World ARE the only punchghosts in the part.

Finally, there's simply the importance of Jotaro vs DIO itself. It's by far the most important fight in the part, and it's by far the hardest too. With other fights, Jotaro's enemies treated him with caution, since they knew how powerful his stand was, but with DIO it's the opposite. Jotaro is forced onto the defensive as much as he tries to attack, and DIO's power forces him to adapt and evolve in ways that he never even considered beforehand. If Jotaro had been consciously showing time-stop powers beforehand, it would have diminished the importance of DIO, both from a narrative sense and in showing his connection with the Joestars.
