I'm actually in the same boat as you for one of my projects. I wouldn't mind nearly as much though if they just gave me the next chapter to work on. They've scanned a few of the later volumes already and do decent work in general so I don't want to burn the bridge and do everything solo, but it definitely sucks.

This is going to sound gay but do you people have any habits or preferences to get you in the mood? Like I always brew a pot of tea and slice some salami to eat while translating.

A pot of coffee and a thermos of hot water are a must for me.
I feel like any kind of food just gets in the way; I can use my left hand for a drink, but not for utensils, and most snack foods make my hands too dirty.
Music or anime (that I've seen before) is nice to have on in the background when I'm doing editing stuff, but it's impossible for me to translate if there's any dialogue/music on. I know it makes me work more slowly, but it's far more relaxing that way.

The only scanlation for it is not really consistent in quality, it's pretty low res and over cropped. So I'm doing it over and giving it the quality it deserves.

Yes, you can. Set your rectangular marquee tool to a size of 3000x4200 first.
Create a new action.
Select the right side of the image.
Copy (control+C).
Create new document with clipboard as a preset.
Paste (control+V).
Go back to the old file and select the left side of the image.
Crop.
Stop action.

That's it. You might want to do more things, like delete the background layer on the image you pasted on the other document or something like that.
