The manga is great, but the anime is by Toei, so it's really fucking cheap looking. If you watch it dubbed, it's pretty damn hilarious because a lot of the cast were also in the english dub of Ghost Stories and you can tell they're having fun with it.

Agreed, the music is good.

the manga started off great, the girls were all hot, then it devolved into some weird flying battle shonen bullshit. It ended really bad.

I remember it being fun when it was all about underground skating battles, and I even got into the idea of the roads and kinds and shit, but apparently it devolved into some weird shit. Kind of like how Naruto went from ninja battles to ninja wizards and ninja aliens.

Naruto wasn't even remotely near this kind of bullshit escalation. Naruto's powerlevels got out of control, but it was always about ninja wizards trying to kill each other, from the very start. This was about people doing better skating tricks than each other, and then it somehow turned into people destroying cities with robots and summoning electric giants to kill each other.
