A solid, driving drum beat that supports strings or solo organ into rock riffs? Why not both?

If you hadn't already then take a listen to anything really by Takanashi Yasuharu, don't stop at Tiger Mas W.

Oh, no, I've been all over it for a while, anon. Tiger Mask W was just the first thing to come to mind tonight. On a completely other note, though, I feel bad that there just seems to be no shred metal left in anime. I swear, the hardest that things get anymore is something like BACK-ON or BUMP OF CHICKEN. I want a whole metal song in the back. Just a whole thing--lyrics and everything blasting in the background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHcrrX0dYLo

Hayashi Yuuki is a god of upbeat tracks

The best part about those powerful/upbeat/go-time songs is that they always last like 2.5-4 minutes each. I don't know how the guy does it. The song isn't just a minute-long loop or anything either; rather, it's a dynamic journey of more or less the same evolving emotion throughout the entire song. They're all great, even if he ends up repeating himself now and again.

Ironically enough, what anime used to to best was basing itself on western media, that's what never fails to give me a boner.

Those slow EDs that start with only a single, slow instrument. They make great OST near the end.

Susumu Hirasawa is the best. That's one of my all time favourite tracks in anime/cinema/tv in general.
Everything he does is gold.

Millennium Actress would be an excellent film even with a different OST, but he just elevates it that much further.
