SSG hasn't been shown since BoG (except the manga) and was thought to only be possible via a gayass ritual. Goku's bringing it back next episode to fight a jobber, so I assume it's still weaker than Blue, but he eventually finds a way to make it stronger or something.

I will give DBS the benefit of the doubt and assume that having to animate only 12 episodes at a time rather than continuously animating an ongoing series means they can have better animation, but even then the way everything was handled just felt so much better.

Even the return of Piccolo's Hellzone Grenade, which is pure fanservice, felt underwhelming.

The stakes in BnHA were simply higher... is what I'd like to say, except we're dealing with a tournament where the existence of entire universes hangs in the balance. Yet it feels a lot less tense than "if I don't beat this guy, a dozen or so children will die".

Toriyama simply jumped too high in terms of powerlevels during Frieza saga. You can pretty much feel him regretting it later. Beerus and Champa were shown destroying planets as if it's an impressive feat, but base Frieza could do it with powerlevel of like 530 thousands.

Ever since Frieza, DB has been "tell not show". The Androids and Cell don't really do anything that Frieza didn't, in fact they came off as less of a threat. It's a problem with Shounen in general. BnH has the luxury of All Might as the universal powerlevel measuring stick. When Deku surpasses him I feel like it's gonna get real messy real quick. The 'stakes' have gone up, but Super suffers from the knowledge that there's:
-improved Earth dragon balls
-Namekian dragon balls they can use whenever
-Super dragon balls which they can use since they're friends with literal gods
So there's no real reason to fear for the main characters' lives.

On top of that, it's not like a lot of them are fearful of losing, nor do you get to care about other universes (apart from 6 and 11).

The universe being on the line in the first place and the reasons for it being on the line is bad writing.

Should have had Zeno bring Goku in and casually mention that he(and his imaginary friend from a nonexistant universe) was going to erase a few universes and that his was going to be erased too. So he brought him in to play before he deletes' them all.
Goku asks him after some comedic silliness that if he wanted to really see something fun then let them have a tournament.
And the GP suggests using the SDB as a prize.

However the people from the other universes don't know about the horrible unfettered power of the super dragon balls.
Once the gods/mortals are given permission to use them with no restraint they can weave in all sorts of plots about how one universe wants to be the main universe and another wants to destroy the other universes.

So that makes it a double threat.

This entire arc right now should have been about goku and co going throughout the multiverse to find and convince the best fighters of each to hold a massive tournament to entertain and convince Zeno to save their universes.

After the arc is over they could have brought back the most popular characters/most voted on characters to have a cool battle tournament AND been able to gauge which characters the kiddies/db autists like so they can figure out which ones to shill the most in the tournament.
