I saw it today and would recommend it, if anything the art style is really nice. I really liked the way the characters move for some reason.
Most of the movie is the MC's daily life with the backdrop of the escalating war. She moves from Hiroshima to Kure for an arranged marriage and it's about her adjusting to the housewife stuff and the in-laws as well as the effects of the war, lots of cooking with the rations and dealing with the military police. Nothing quite as tragic as Grave of the Fireflies, but of course plenty of fucked up shit happens by the end.
