Hell Girl is a job to Emma Ai but it's actually supposed to be a form of punishment. Hell Girl is typically an innocent girl who died with a grudge nasty enough that it actually killed other people. It has been implied that spiritually sensitive girls whose bloodline are directly connected to unresolved grudges and regrets that can not rest can also become Hell Girl. They are basically forced to become Hell Girl to at least save their innocent loved ones or innocent wronged ones from suffering in purgatory.

My first contact with anime was of course Pokémon and Digimon, and then a few years later the Dragonball manga. Then I found 4chan when I was about 13 and was edgy as fuck and hated anime, but I watched S&W because I kept seeing it everywhere and I liked it.

Then many years went by and I suddenly felt like rewatchning Pokémon and catch up on all the new stuff so I did that, then I watched Digimon again with subs this time, and read the pokémon manga. Eventually I saw someone post something about SAO and .hack/sign

I watched a few episodes of .hack/sign before dropping it and started watching SAO, that was the first time I really got into 2d except for Pokemon/Digimon and Spice and Wolf. Since then I've watched almost 600 series the past 4 years. I can't bring myself to hate SAO even now because it's what really brought me into 2d even though I had touched it a few times before

This show has so much unused potential. Enma Ai is by far the most interesting character in the series, yet every single episode is completely focused on random characters we'll never see again, whereas Enma Ai just repeats the same exact lines every episode. Just rewatched that episode. God damn, Jigoku Shoujo was so much better back in S1.
The sense of mystery surrounding Enma Ai.
A common thread throughout the episodes with Tsugumi and Hajime rather than just "asshole of the week".
No annoying sidecharacters like Kikuri and Yamawaro.
