What went wrong?

A tonal/thematic shift that turned off a number of viewers despite a solid payoff.
Marketing. And second half.
aired in the same season as a totally unshitpostable shaft anime so all the shitposters assaulted it instead
Tried to be too many things at once. It went from Alice in Wonderland type scenario to a Madoka type mahou shoujo to a Evangelion like sci-fi drama. Make up your mind already.
Horribly paced 4 episode plot dump in a show whose only appeal was about girls going on acid trip adventures. Also the fact that so little had been revealed up to that point that the fans ended up coming up with much better storylines that fit the themes of the story better than what we ended up getting.

At least the threads were good most of the time. Hunting for references and researching shit made some of the best threads I ever witnessed on /a/. Also postcard.

I don't think any of these comments are incorrect, but I do think it was an good anime full of creative, interesting animation and ideas that unfortunately couldn't stick the landing. It's a shame, really.

I say it was too creative for its own good. Could've been three or four separate well made anime, but it was too ambitious and tried to make it into one. Only Ikuhara can do shit like that and get away with it.

It had tons of fanartists, but those artists were poor and couldn't buy it.

Plebs.
>>160997914
My philosophy is "take the plot seriously if it has a plot that should be treated seriously" if I don't it would be an insult to the series.

Everything but the animation.

They dropped the ball halfway.
When the time came for the much needed follow up it did it in the worst way possible. Very sad, though probably not the worst offender out there when it comes to disappointing everyone.

Not enough Papikana.

I liked it.

That would be Kill la Kill if only because od considerably bigger fanbase
No idea what masterworks of storytelling you are watching every season if Flip Flappers was so bad. It's already miles above so many shows just for having a conclusive, unmistakingly happy ending.

It's not really a secret that japs can't ever make an anime with actually good plot. The problem with Flip Flappers was that for a brief moment it promised a spectacular break from the usual routine but didn't deliver after introducing the shitty EVA plotline. The actual ending would be perfectly ok if not for the absolute mess that preceded it.

Too many random themes, not enough consistency.
Fury Road episode what the best episode, closely followed by the lesbian school episode
