Oshimi Shuzi is by far my favourite author, every single one of his works is atmospheric as fuck and very immersive. It takes a true genius to take such a bland premise as the one on Chi no Wadachi and turn it to something so intense, I mean goddamn they never really say anything of substance but somehow I'm always on the edge with this shit.

I also believe it's the art coupled with his skill of portraying the human psyche, his characters seem so real because they have actual feelings that they're not afraid to express and it helps the reader empathize with them. I read it years ago but I remember the last chapter of AnH showing the story from Nakamura's perspective and she really did perceive everyone as scary shadows woth a red filter applied on it. I feel like Oshimi's stories tend to start out very solid but kind of devolve in the end.

I remember the filler masturbation chapter in Boku wa Mari no Naka. Yeah, sure, at least 'he' reacted how most people would if they believed that they'd switched bodies by being terrified first, but when he became used to her body, he did what anyone would do when they believe they switch gender with an attractive person - masturbate. But it kind of felt like he was meandering because Shuuzo hadn't planned the story out solidly beforehand.

I unno, I was also slightly let down with Aku no Hana's ending, it ended kind of with a whimper rather than a bang, I didn't really get the portrayal of Nakamura's psyche at the time of the final volume in the final scene even if it was artsy.

I do admit that his art style has gotten better. The crappy proportions from the beginning of Aku no Hana got a lot better in the final volumes, it's such a huge change to see young Kasuga drawn again on one of the pages of the final volume. Not super fond of how scratchy his style has become though. Boku wa Mari started off much 'cleaner', I feel in terms of art.

I also liked Mysterious Girlfriend X's art until the ending where it also became thin lined and very scratchy. It's normal to see a mangaka's style change from the beginning to end of a series but sometimes it doesn't always improve.
