Panty and Stocking's dub never did it for me. They made panty too trashy and stocking too bratty. Granted I love Garter's voice and Chuck is spot on. Hell even the demon sisters are good.
But I felt they took the tone of the show as an excuse to make Drawn Together/Family Guy tier jokes without a semblence of sincerity in it. It's one thing to just make a complete gag dub like Shin-chan or Ghost Stories, but I feel like PS&G suffers from trying too hard.

I know that's weird to say but the japanese version of panty was very abrasive and confident. Which made her being trashy seem more like a juxtaposition of the sort of "heroic magical girl" kind of character.
English VA just kinda...sounds like a trashy girl. There's absolutely no justaposition. It's basically played completely straight. And while I get that that's not the WHOLE point of Panty's character in all honesty I just prefer her japanese voice (and this is coming from a guy who often prefers a dub)

I am very familiar with Funimation dubs and I've sampled MHA/BnHA. It's not very good.

This is to be expected, as they've always been hacks prone to frequent rewrites (remember when Lucoa started fighting the patricarchy?) and have produced exactly two good dubs. Those being Panty and Stocking and Danganronpa 3, the latter of which is only acceptable because the original was so poorly written stuffing it filled with memes was a genuine improvement.

Yeah I'll admit I overblew that, I just don't like her much.

Overall, the dub isn't god awful, especially when compared to other Funimation stuff. Some characters like Chuuni Bird and All Might sound better. But to claim it's as good as the original is, in my opinion, a decently sized stretch.
